Published: February 1995

Chitosan-amino acid conjugates were prepared by coupling amino acid esters to the carboxyl group of glyoxylic acid-substituted chitosan. The removal of heavy metals (Cu, Ni, Co and Mn) was increased by introduction of amino acids to chitosan, especially for Mn. Heavy metals were almost completely removed by chitosan-amino acid conjugates from solutions at an initial concentration of 100 parts per million.

Ortho-R (ChitogenX Inc., Kirkland, QC, Canada) is an injectable combination drug-biologic product that is used as an adjunct to augment the standard of care for the surgical repair of soft tissues. The drug product comprises lyophilized chitosan, trehalose and calcium chloride, and it is dissolved in platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a blood-derived biologic, prior to injection at the surgical site where it will coagulate.

We analyzed the effects of foliar spraying with amino acids, chitosan (CHS) and nanocomposites (NCs) of chitosan with the amino acids proline, L-cysteine and glycine betaine (CHS-Pro NCs; CHS-Cys NCs, CHS-GB NCs, respectively) on the changes in the physiological and biochemical parameters of iceberg lettuce grown at the control temperature (20 °C) and under chilling conditions (4 °C). The physicochemical parameters of the phospholipid monolayers (PLs) extracted from plants showed the effects of the treatments on the properties of the monolayers, namely, the packing density and flexibility. We observed increased accumulation of proline at 4 °C, and differences in the concentrations of sugars in most of the analyzed variants were a consequence of the lowered temperature and/or the use of organic compounds.

The main aim of this work is the preparation of azo dye modified chitosan that was subsequently used in the ion-imprinting of Cr(III) ions to finally obtain ion-selective sorbent able to selectively combine with Cr(III) ions from water when coexisting with other similar metal ions. The azo dye derived from resorcinol and p-aminobenzoic acid was prepared and then linked to the chitosan amino groups by amide linkages utilizing EDC/NHS coupling agent. A polymeric complex of the azo dye chitosan derivative AZCS and Cr(III) ions was then prepared and treated with glyoxal solution, which cross-link the main chitosan chains in form of micro-spherical beads in presence of the coordinated Cr(III) ions that were later expelled out of the texture of the beads using acidified EDTA eluent solution while preserving the spatial and geometrical shape of the resulting Cr(III) ions chelating sites.

Anthracnose decay is one of the major causes of postharvest losses of avocados (Persea americana), during marketing. Currently, Prochloraz® fungicide is used to control anthracnose at postharvest stage which poses threat to consumer safety. Therefore, this study evaluated the effects of high and low molecular weight chitosan on the control of avocado anthracnose and fruit defence mechanism.

Design and evaluation of chitosan-amino acid thermosensitive hydrogel.

Mar Life Sci Technol

February 2022

Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutics College, Henan University of Science and Technology, Luoyang, 471023 China.

Chitosan/glycerophosphate thermosensitive hydrogel crosslinked physically was a potential drug delivery carrier; however, long gelation time limits its application. Here, chitosan-amino acid (AA) thermosensitive hydrogels were prepared from chitosan (CS), αβ-glycerophosphate (GP), and l-lysine (Lys) or l-glutamic acid (Glu). The prepared CS-Lys/GP and CS-Glu/GP hydrogel showed good thermosensitivity and could form gels in a short time.
