Increasing evidence suggests that dysbiosis of gut microbiota exacerbates chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression. Curcumin (CUR) has been reported to alleviate renal fibrosis in animal models of CKD. However, the relationship between CUR and gut microbiome in CKD remains unclear.

Neuroplasticity in Diffuse Low-grade Gliomas: Backward Modelling of Brain-tumor Interactions Prior to Diagnosis is Needed to Better Predict Recovery after Treatment.

Curr Neurol Neurosci Rep

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Gui de Chauliac Hospital, Montpellier University Medical Center, 80 Avenue Augustin Fliche, Montpellier, 34295, France.

Purpose Of Review: In low-grade glioma (LGG), besides the patient's neurological status and tumor characteristics on neuroimaging, current treatment guidelines mainly rely on the glioma's genetics at diagnosis to define therapeutic strategy, usually starting with surgical resection. However, this snapshot in time does not take into account the antecedent period of tumor progression and its interactions with the brain before presentation. This article reviews new concepts that pertain to reconstruct the history of previous interplay between the LGG's course and adaptive changes in the connectome within which the glioma is embedded over the years preceding the diagnosis.

Background: The early diagnosis and monitoring of Alzheimer's disease (AD) presents a significant challenge due to its heterogeneous nature, which includes variability in cognitive symptoms, diagnostic test results, and progression rates. This study aims to enhance the understanding of AD progression by integrating neuroimaging metrics with demographic data using a novel machine learning technique.

Method: We used supervised Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), a generative AI method, to analyze high-dimensional neuroimaging data for AD progression, incorporating age and gender as covariates.

Background: Data-driven disease progression models of Alzheimer's disease (AD) have identified subtypes in regional patterns of Aβ deposition using amyloid PET. In addition to Aβ accumulation, early frame measures of tracer delivery from amyloid PET are strongly correlated with blood flow. This work explores whether combining tracer delivery with amyloid binding measures can improve the subtype and stage characterisation over amyloid binding alone.

The transmembrane glycoproteins Trop-1/EpCAM and Trop-2 independently trigger Ca and kinase signals for cell growth and tumor progression. Our findings indicated that Trop-1 and Trop-2 tightly colocalize at macroscopic, ruffle-like protrusions (RLP), that elevate from the cell perimeter, and locally recur over hundreds of seconds. These previously unrecognized elevated membrane regions ≥20 µm-long, up to 1.
