The causes of formation of false joints of shot origin are given in the present paper. The treatment included internal and transosseous osteosynthesis. In presence of fistula form of the chronic osteomyelitis preliminary necr- and sequestrectomy carried out. The shortening was resected by bone osteotomy and distraction by apparatus combined with false joint compression. The most frequent appeared to be purulent complications and nonremoved extremity deformity. Adhesion was achieved after 151 operation.

Introduction: Reconstructing large bone defects for lower limb salvage in the pediatric population remains challenging due to complex oncological or septic issues, limited surgical options, and lengthy procedures prone to complications. The vascularized double-barreled fibula free flap is pivotal for reconstructing large bones. In this article, we report our experience with this technique in the surgical management of pediatric tibial bone defects.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the presence of the "cortex sign" (corticalization) in femoral diaphysis fractures determined by the dynamization of nails because of delayed union. The study included 12 patients with a closed transverse femoral fracture (AO 32a3) treated with dynamization (all the screws distal of the nail were removed) because of delayed healing and followed up for at least 2 years. These patients were evaluated for the presence of bone union, cortex-like sclerosis (corticalization) distal to the nail, and the distance of the corticalization from the joint during follow- up after dynamization.

Clavicle fractures represent one of the most frequent type of fractures. However, there is no consensus on the treatment of these fractures and their relative indications for surgery. The purpose of this study is to determine whether surgical treatment of mid-diaphyseal clavicular fractures indeed results in fewer complications and better radiological outcomes, as current trends suggest, in comparison to conservative treatment.

FGFR antagonists restore defective mandibular bone repair in a mouse model of osteochondrodysplasia.

Bone Res

January 2025

Université de Paris Cité, Imagine Institute, Laboratory of Molecular and Physiopathological Bases of Osteochondrodysplasia, INSERM UMR 1163, Paris, France.

Gain-of-function mutations in fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) genes lead to chondrodysplasia and craniosynostoses. FGFR signaling has a key role in the formation and repair of the craniofacial skeleton. Here, we analyzed the impact of Fgfr2- and Fgfr3-activating mutations on mandibular bone formation and endochondral bone repair after non-stabilized mandibular fractures in mouse models of Crouzon syndrome (Crz) and hypochondroplasia (Hch).

[Treatment of geriatric odontoid fractures].

Unfallchirurgie (Heidelb)

February 2025

Klinik für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie, Universitätsklinikum Freiburg, Hugstetter Straße 55, 79106, Freiburg, Deutschland.

The treatment of odontoid fractures in geriatric patients, particularly type II fractures, remains controversial. In biologically young patients, studies suggest advantages of surgical treatment in terms of mortality; however, this advantage is not observed in geriatric patients. While the mortality appears to be higher after conservative treatment in patients aged 65-80 years, there are studies that have shown no differences in mortality for patients aged 80 years or older and even showed advantages of conservative treatment in this age group.
