Large granular lymphocytes (LGL) proliferation is characterized by expansion of cytotoxic lymphocytes and associated with neutropenia. In a case of CD3+ LGL-proliferation the epinephrine stimulation test (EST) induced a striking elevation of CD3+, CD8+, CD57+ LGL in peripheral blood from 2.7 x 10(9)/l to 20 x 10(9)/l and might be an additional diagnostic tool in patients with normal or low absolute numbers of circulating LGL. After treatment with steroids, plasma elastase--a marker of neutrophil destruction--decreased from 162 to 40 micrograms/l (normal < 47 micrograms/l) which correlated well with a simultaneous increase in peripheral neutrophil counts from 0.14 to 1.0 x 10(9)/l. This finding supports the hypothesis that neutropenia in CD3+ LGL proliferation is due to neutrophil destruction, possibly mediated by LGL.

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common salivary gland tumour. Pre-operative fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is currently one of the most widely used cytological examination techniques for the diagnosis of salivary gland tumours. Because PA exhibits characteristic cytological features, cytological diagnosis is straightforward in most cases.

Microbubble-assisted starch modification (MASM) using different gases (N, CO and air) was employed to assess the effects of hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) on various botanical starches, including potato, wheat, corn and rice. SEM showed that N- and CO- microbubbles created more pronounced holes and cracks on the starch surfaces than air-microbubbles. The hydrodynamic cavitation-assisted microbubble (HCAM) treatment significantly reduced the amorphous and crystalline structures in potato and wheat starches, with less impact observed in corn and rice.

Objective: Hearing loss (HL) is associated with depression, but existing datasets are limited by the type of data available for both hearing and mental health conditions. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is an association between HL and depressive disorders within a large bi-institutional electronic health record (EHR) system containing more granular diagnostic information.
Study Design: Cross-sectional epidemiologic study.

During routine sampling of northern pike, a male with circular blue-metallic granular spots mainly located on the head and back was identified. Histological investigations presented multifocally thickened epidermis rich in basophilic large structures with a granulated rim and a dense, non-granulated center. Other organs showed no signs of infection.

The epithelial and mesenchymal features of colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRAC) cell lines were compared in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) cultures. In 2D cultures, the three CRAC cell lines exhibited epithelial characteristics with high E-cadherin and low vimentin levels, whereas two exhibited mesenchymal traits with opposite expression patterns. In 3D cultures using low-attachment plates, mesenchymal cells from 2D cultures showed reduced vimentin mRNA levels.
