Ovarian dysfunction develops in Nya:NYLAR mice chronically infected with Toxoplasma gondii. To differentiate between primary ovarian failure and pituitary gonadotropin insufficiency, we (a) monitored ovarian responsiveness to pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and (b) assessed endogenous pituitary gonadotropin capacity by the degree of ovarian compensatory hypertrophy (OCH) developing after unilateral ovariectomy (ULO). PMSG stimulated vigorous folliculogenesis and estrogen synthesis, but not ovulation. HCG given 3 days after PMSG induced "superovulation" within 16 h. These observations indicate the absence of the critical preovulatory surge of endogenous luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary. In addition, ULO did not result in compensatory hypertrophy of the contralateral ovary, an indication of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) insufficiency. We hypothesize that cytokines released peripherally in response to the parasite reached the hypothalamus and initiated a sequence of events that inhibited the pulsatile release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), leading to the subsequent impairment of the pituitary-ovarian axis.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of hysterectomy for benign uterine tumors on subsequent ovarian reserve, sexual function, and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).
Methods: The present study was a prospective longitudinal analysis that recruited patients aged 35-45 years who underwent simple hysterectomy without oophorectomy for symptomatic benign uterine tumors. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and serum sex hormone profiles, including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol, progesterone, and total testosterone, were measured at four timepoints: before hysterectomy, and 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively.

Background: Sexual dysfunction is prevalent among cancer survivors, significantly impacting patient and partner quality of life. Despite this, sexual health clinics (SHCs) remain rare in cancer centres across Canada. An innovative clinic was developed at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada to address this significant gap in survivorship care.

The essential cause of menopause is ovarian failure, which can cause decline in sex hormones (especially estrogen) that can increase the risk of metabolic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. This study screened 1511 eligible patients from 2148 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women, measuring various physiological and biochemical indicators to analyze differences among age groups (40-44, 45-49, and 50-54 years) with laboratory techniques. The study found no significant difference in the incidence of cardiovascular disease betweenperimenopausal and postmenopausal women.

Androgen excess and metabolic abnormality largely contribute to the pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which primarily precipitates ovarian dysfunction and infertility in reproductive-age women. Impaired mitochondrial function and epigenetic alteration have been linked to the development of PCOS. However, it is unknown whether acetate would exert a therapeutic effect on ovarian mitochondrial dysfunction in PCOS.

Nonylphenol (NP), a non-ionic surfactant and potent endocrine disruptor, is known for its environmental persistence, biotic accumulation potential and toxicity. Nonetheless, mechanisms underlying NP modulation of female fertility with potential impact on embryogenesis in the unexposed offspring remain elusive. This study investigates the effects and toxic mechanisms of maternal exposure to NP at varying concentrations (50 and 100 μg/L) on zebrafish (Danio rerio), specifically focusing on ovarian health, reproductive parameters, and early developmental potential in the F1 generation.
