A two-year follow-up was made of twenty-one impacted, mesially inclined mandibular molars which were surgically uprighted and splinted with autogenous bone grafts. There were two instances of follicular cysts in the adjacent impacted third molars and two instances of supereruption of uprighted teeth. With these exceptions, all uprightings were successful according to the criteria of continued root growth, normality of pulp chambers, normal periodontium, and normal contiguous structures.

Article Synopsis
  • * A case study details the orthodontic treatment of a 21-year-old woman with maxillomandibular protrusion and impacted mandibular second molars, using the innovative Physiologic Anchorage Spee-wire System (PASS) for effective alignment and resolution of impaction.
  • * The PASS technique proved to be a simple and efficient method for correcting dental issues, showing superiority over traditional wire appliances and minimizing discomfort during treatment while achieving a well-aligned dentition.

Transmigration of mandibular canine teeth is a rare dental anomaly characterized by the tooth's aberrant migration through the alveolar bone. This deviation from the expected eruption pathway can lead to tooth impaction, root resorption, periodontal problems, and aesthetic concerns. The exact cause of transmigration is not fully understood, but it is believed to be influenced by a combination of genetic, developmental, and environmental factors.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare treatment efficacy and cephalometric outcomes between extraction and non-extraction MEAW therapies in non-growing open-bite patients.

Materials And Methods: 22 Multiloop Edgewise Archwire MEAW patients (11 males, 11 females) and 15 bicuspid extraction patients (3 males, 12 females) were selected according to a strict inclusion criterion. Comprehensive data collection related to age, sex, Cervical Vertebral Maturation CVM staging, and severity of the Anterior Open Bite AOB (1 = 0-1 mm; 2 = 1-2 mm; 3 = > 2.

A distinctive method for extraction of the bilateral impacted mandibular second molars (MM2s) and moving the bilateral mesioangularly impacted mandibular third molars (MM3s) to the MM2 positions with appropriate occlusion by orthodontic uprighting and protraction was demonstrated in a 24-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman, respectively. Although the surgical procedures should be performed under general anesthesia, rapid orthodontic treatment after tooth extraction aided in the initial teeth movement of the bilateral MM3s. The proposed treatment could be implemented and completed in 2 years or less.

Introduction: Delayed evolution of second molars is a rare phenomenon with an estimated prevalence in the mandible of 0 to 2.3%. Many etiologies have been proposed to explain these inclusions, among which the reduction of arch perimeter, distalization of first molar, mesio-angulated position of the second molar.
