The immunological and biological properties of a liver-specific antigen (LSA) from rat liver are described. LSA gave interspecies cross-reactions with liver extracts from several mammalian species, but no reaction of complete identify was observed. Moreover, no cross-reaction was found with chicken or frog livers, thus indicating the rather late appearance of LSA in the process of evolution. Experiments with fetal and neonatal liver extracts have indicated that LSA appears late in fetal development and is always present at birth. The biological properties of LSA were explored by several independent approaches. LSAg-Ab immunoprecipitates were stained positively with carbon naphthoxycholine iodide, an indirect evidence of choline esterase activity. LSA was also found to bind bile acids, thus suggesting organic anion properties. Finally, LSA was detected in the circulation of rats with acute carbon tetrachloride- and galactosamine-induced hepatocellular injury. This LSA is immunologically distinct from hepatitis B antigen, alpha-fetoprotein, carcino-embryonic antigen and, from each of several serum and liver proteins tested.

Background: Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are recognized for their therapeutic potential in immune modulation and tissue repair, especially in veterinary medicine. This study introduces an innovative sequential stimulation (IVES) technique, involving low-oxygen gas mixture preconditioning using in vitro fertilization gas (IVFG) and direct current electrical stimulation (ES20), to enhance the anti-inflammatory properties of sEVs from canine adipose-derived MSCs (cAD-MSCs). Initial steps involved isolation and comprehensive characterization of cAD-MSCs, including morphology, gene expression, and differentiation potentials, alongside validation of the electrical stimulation protocol.

Nanoscale photoswitchable proteins could facilitate precise spatiotemporal control of transmembrane communication and support studies in synthetic biology, neuroscience and bioelectronics. Here, through covalent modification of the α-haemolysin protein pore with arylazopyrazole photoswitches, we produced 'photopores' that transition between iontronic resistor and diode modes in response to irradiation at orthogonal wavelengths. In the diode mode, a low-leak OFF-state nanopore exhibits a reversible increase in unitary conductance of more than 20-fold upon irradiation at 365 nm.
