A Clinical Practice-Based Comparison of Conventional and Individualized Dosing Strategies for Therapeutic Enoxaparin.

Pharmacol Res Perspect

February 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, Royal Adelaide Hospital, Central Adelaide Local Health Network, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.

To understand differences in anti-factor-Xa levels produced by two different dosing strategies (conventional and individualized) for therapeutic enoxaparin in a cohort of hospital inpatients. A multicenter, retrospective cohort study over a two- and a half-year period for inpatients with stable renal function and on therapeutic enoxaparin. Anti-factor-Xa levels were taken 3-5 h after enoxaparin administration and a minimum of 48 h of dosing.

Purpose: D-dimer, a fibrinolysis indicator, may predict functional and life outcomes in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients. We aimed to identify optimal D-dimer cutoff values for poor functional outcomes in severe TBI.

Methods: We used data from a multi-centre prospective observational cohort study that included patients with TBI with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score ≤ 8 within 48 h after injury or required neurosurgical procedures.

The present research aimed to assess the anti-cancer effects of the polysaccharide fraction (SJP) isolated from . The release of immune-activating cytokines, including IL-6, IL-12, and TNF-α, was markedly stimulated by the SJP in a concentration-dependent manner within the range of 1 to 100 µg/mL. Furthermore, the prophylactic intravenous () and per os () injection of SJP boosted the cytolytic activity mediated by NK cells and CTLs against tumor cells.

Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide found in brown seaweed. Due to its reported biological activities, including antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities, it has garnered significant attention for potential biomedical applications. However, the direct relationship between fucoidan extracts' chemical structures and bioactivities is unclear, making it extremely challenging to predict whether an extract will possess a given bioactivity.

Development of Hollow Fiber Membranes Suitable for Outside-In Filtration of Human Blood Plasma.

Membranes (Basel)

January 2025

Advanced Organ Bioengineering and Therapeutics, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Twente, Zuidhorst 28, Drienerlolaan 5, 7522 NB Enschede, The Netherlands.

Hemodialysis (HD) is a critical treatment for patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). The effectiveness of conventional dialyzers used there could be compromised during extended use due to limited blood compatibility of synthetic polymeric membranes and sub-optimal dialyzer design. In fact, blood flow in the hollow fiber (HF) membrane could trigger inflammatory responses and thrombus formation, leading to reduced filtration efficiency and limiting therapy duration, a consequence of flowing the patients' blood through the lumen of each fiber while the dialysate passes along the inter-fiber space (IOF, inside-out filtration).
