The objective of the study was to investigate the genetic contribution to the clinical expression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by comparison of disease features in RA-concordant monozygotic (MZ) twin pairs. Fourteen RA-concordant MZ twin pairs recruited from a nation-wide study were examined to determine the degree of similarity in: (a) age of disease onset; (b) pattern of joint involvement; (c) pattern of extra-articular disease; (d) toxic reactions to drugs; (e) disease course; and (f) serology for rheumatoid factor (RF) and antinuclear antibody. There was considerable within-pair diversity in the variables studied. Some similarity within twin pairs was observed for the ages at disease onset (R = 0.63), presence of erosive changes (kappa = 0.61) and the presence of IgM RF (R = 0.87). No important similarity was seen, however, in the pattern of joint involvement, the occurrence of extra-articular disease, adverse drugs reactions, clinical disease course and reported disability level. There is heterogeneity in the genetic contribution to the clinical expression of RA. The overall lack of similarity for the majority of clinical variables indicates the importance of non-genetic factors on the expression of disease.

: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) has become a common health problem among the aging population and affects an increasing number of elderly women worldwide. Studies within family and twin pairs provided strong evidence for the contribution of genetic factors to POP. Given the incomplete penetrance, polygenic traits, and small effect sizes of each variant in complex diseases, it is not always easy to evaluate the genetic susceptibility and molecular mechanisms involved in POP.

Tail docking and ear tagging are common husbandry practices in lambs, but little is known about subsequent wound healing or how it may be affected by performing both procedures concurrently. Our objectives were to: (1) describe wound healing following tail docking and ear tagging, and (2) compare healing of ear wounds in docked and undocked lambs. The twin testosterone transfer (TTT) hypothesis posits that females with male co-twins (opposite-sex, OS) might develop male-typical traits due to higher prenatal testosterone exposure. To describe the distribution characteristics of alcohol consumption in adult twins in the Chinese National Twin Registry (CNTR), and further explore the influence of genetic factors on alcohol consumption in adult twins. The subjects of the study were twins registered by CNTR in 11 project areas across China from 2010 to 2018. A total of 56 966 twins (28 483 pairs) aged 18 years and above who answered questions about drinking behavior were included, and the random effect model was used to describe the population and regional distribution characteristics of alcohol consumption.
