Objectives: Supplemental zinc during acute diarrhea reduces illness duration but also increases vomiting. In a recent trial, we found that children receiving lower daily doses of zinc (5 mg or 10 mg vs. 20 mg) had lower rates of vomiting with comparable stool output and duration of diarrhea.

Total marrow and lymphoid irradiation (TMLI) can deliver higher doses of irradiation without increased toxicity. This study evaluated TMLI and cyclophosphamide in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). A total of 58 patients underwent matched related, unrelated, or haplo-identical donor transplantation using TMLI.

Relapse and regimen-related toxicities remain major challenges in achieving long-term survival, particularly among older patients with high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or acute myeloid leukemia (AML) undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Previous studies have demonstrated the feasibility of treosulfan-based conditioning, noting stable engraftment and low non-relapse mortality (NRM) in patients undergoing HLA-matched allo-HSCT. However, data on treosulfan-based conditioning in the HLA-haploidentical transplantation (HaploT) setting are limited.

Reduced-toxicity conditioning (RTC) regimens aim to mitigate regimen-related toxicity while maintaining anti-leukemic efficacy in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). We assessed outcomes of RTC regimens utilizing melphalan versus intravenous busulfan combined with fludarabine in adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients. A retrospective analysis was conducted with 149 consecutive adult ALL patients (median age 51, range 18-60) in remission undergoing allo-HSCT.
