[Transmission and prevention of viral hepatitis].

Rev Prat

Service d'hépato-gastro-entérologie, Centre hospitalier universitaire Toulouse-Purpan.

Published: January 1995

The ways of transmission of hepatotropic viruses are now fairly known. Populations at risk for these infections are precisely identified and preventive measures are efficient. Safe hygiene for oro-fecal as well as for sexual or blood transmission is accurately determined. Vaccines exist against some viruses. In the future, efforts will have to be made in several directions: a) education of individuals at risk, in order to further diminish the transmission of the viruses in these groups; b) identification of the mode of transmission of sporadic hepatitis which, so far, has escaped any prevention; c) design of a vaccine against virus C, which will make mass prevention possible.

Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is a zoonotic disease that affects both livestock and humans. Men and women in pastoralist communities are vulnerable to RVF risk exposure because of their different roles and reliance on livestock products. This study sought to understand how ownership and decision-making in pastoralist male and female-headed households influence coping mechanisms and resilience to Rift Valley fever (RVF), using the three resilience capacities of absorptive, adaptive, and transformative.

Impact of media coverage on the transmission dynamics of TB with vaccines and treatment.

PLoS One

Department of Mathematics, College of Natural and Computational Science, Debre Berhan University, Debre Berhan, Adis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the deadly infectious diseases affecting millions of individuals throughout the world. The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of media coverage on the transmission dynamics of TB with vaccine and treatment strategy using mathematical model analysis. In the qualitative analysis of the proposed model we proved the existence, uniqueness, positivity, and boundedness of the model solutions, investigated both the disease-free and endemic equilibrium points, computed the basic and effective reproduction numbers using next generation matrix approach, analyzed the stability analysis of the equilibrium points, the backward bifurcation using the Castillo-Chavez and Song theorem and we re-formulated the corresponding optimal control problem and analyzed by applying the Pontryagin's Minimum Principle.

Pathogen Binding and Entry: Molecular Interactions with the Insect Gut.

Annu Rev Entomol

January 2025

Department of Entomology and Nematology, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA; email:

The point of entry for the majority of arthropod pathogens and arthropod-vectored pathogens of plant, animal, and human health importance is the arthropod midgut. Pathogen interaction with the midgut therefore represents a primary target for intervention to prevent pathogen infection and transmission. Despite this key role in pathogen invasion, relatively little is known of the specific molecular interactions between pathogens and the surface of the arthropod gut epithelium, with few pathogen receptors having been definitively identified.

Background: The unique characteristics of air pollution in high-altitude regions may significantly influence the transmission and incidence of influenza. However, current research on this phenomenon is limited, and further investigation is urgently needed.

Methods: This study collected influenza outpatient data from Qinghai Province between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2021.

Understanding the PrEP Care Continuum for Adults: Health Care Providers' Perspectives on Barriers, Facilitators, and Missed Opportunities.

AIDS Patient Care STDS

January 2025

Division of Epidemiology, Department of Public Health Science, School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, New York, USA.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective strategy in reducing HIV transmission, yet its uptake remains suboptimal. Health care providers play a vital role in facilitating PrEP access and care. This qualitative study explores health care providers' perspectives on the oral PrEP care continuum for adults, emphasizing barriers, facilitators, and missed opportunities in PrEP implementation.
