Zeniplatin, a more water-soluble organoplatinum than cisplatin, was evaluated for clinical pharmacology in the context of a phase II trial in previously treated patients with ovarian carcinoma. A total of 12 patients were given zeniplatin at 120 mg/m2 by rapid intravenous infusion over 90 min, with both blood and urine being sampled. All platinum moieties were analyzed in whole blood, plasma, plasma ultrafiltrate, and urine by atomic absorption, and free zeniplatin was analyzed in plasma ultrafiltrate by specific high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In a comparison of the platinum-time concentration curve, AUC (area under the curve) values indicated that approximately 90% of platinum moieties were bound to circulating plasma proteins. There was no evidence of drug accumulation after repetitive dosing. The terminal half-life (t1/2) of this drug in plasma ultrafiltrate (3.7-7.2 h.) as measured by HPLC was slightly longer than that of carboplatin, whereas total platinum moieties in plasma displayed a long t1/2 (124-154 h). Approximately 60% of platinum moieties could be recovered in the urine within 24 h. These findings suggest that zeniplatin has a pharmacokinetic profile similar to that of carboplatin.

Alkynylallenes offer the varied reactivity patterns of two different multiple bond linkages either separately or in concert. Initially, a short overview of their syntheses, structures, rearrangement mechanisms and synthetic utility, especially when treated with transition metal reagents such as gold(I), silver(I), platinum metals or metal carbonyls, is presented. Subsequently, we focus on the particular case of 1,2-dien-5-ynes (propargylallenes), whereby the shortness of the single atom bridge, and the consequent proximity of the allenyl and alkynyl moieties, facilitates metal-mediated interactions between them.

Ligands containing phenanthridine (benzo[c]quinoline) have presented notable exceptions to the conventional logic that increasing ligand benzannulation leads to bathochromic (red) shifts in the absorption and emission of their coordination complexes. The counterintuitive blue shifts have been attributed to the peculiar structure of phenanthridines, whose ground states are dominated by imine-bridged biphenyl resonance contributors. These serve to isolate the C=N unit electronically from the rest of the ligand framework and allow the C=N moiety to act as a 'shock-absorber', buffering against larger molecular distortions in a molecule's excited state, and reducing the observed pseudo-Stokes' shift.

One grand challenge for deploying porous carbons with embedded metal-nitrogen-carbon (M-N-C) moieties as platinum group metal (PGM)-free electrocatalysts in proton-exchange membrane fuel cells is their fast degradation and inferior activity. Here, we report the modulation of the local environment at Fe-N sites via the application of atomic Sn-N sites for simultaneously improved durability and activity. We discovered that Sn-N sites not only promote the formation of the more stable D2 FeNC sites but also invoke a unique D3 SnN-FeN site that is characterized by having atomically dispersed bridged Sn-N and Fe-N.

Continuous Flow Chemistry and Bayesian Optimization for Polymer-Functionalized Carbon Nanotube-Based Chemiresistive Methane Sensors.

We report the preparation of poly(ionic) polymer-wrapped single-walled carbon nanotube dispersions for chemiresistive methane (CH) sensors with improved humidity tolerance. Single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) were noncovalently functionalized by poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) with varied amounts of a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) moiety bearing a Br and terminal azide group (Br-R). The quaternization of P4VP with Br-R was performed using continuous flow chemistry and Bayesian optimization-guided reaction selection.

Electrostatic electronic interactions within oxidized multinuclear Pt(bipyridine)(dithiolene) complexes.

Bi- and trimetallic platinum(bipyridine)(dithiolene) complexes involving different organic linkers between the redox active platinum(dithiolene) moieties have been synthesized and studied by electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry. Cyclic voltammetry experiments carried out on these multinuclear complexes in dichloromethane using [NBu][PF] as the supporting salt show only one oxidation process involving the metallacycles. Nevertheless, spectro-electrochemical studies, carried out under the same conditions, show a different evolution of the spectra during oxidation depending on the position of the metallacycles on the phenyl ring.
