Study of the mechanism of todralazine antimutagenic activity: the effect upon mutagenicity of daunorubicine.

Todralazine markedly reduced the mutagenic activity of the standard direct-acting mutagen--daunorobicine (DRC)--in the Ames test. Spectrophotometric measurements proved that todralazine did not interact with DRC in water solution. Todralazine neither interacted with calf thymus DNS in vitro, nor changed the interaction of DRC with DNA. Therefore we concluded that the decrease of DRC mutagenicity observed in the Ames test should be explained rather in terms of a bioantimutagenic than a desmutagenic activity of todralazine.

Globally, an estimated 1 billion people reside in endemic areas, and over 12 million individuals are infected with leishmaniasis. Despite its prevalence, leishmaniasis continues to be a neglected disease, mainly affecting underdeveloped countries. In Brazil, the available treatments are pentavalent antimonials and Amphotericin B, which are outdated, toxic, require prolonged parenteral administration and have limited efficacy.

Higher education institutions and public health agencies in the United States (US) have recognized that food insecurity is pervasive and interferes with student learning on multiple levels. However, less research has examined food insecurity among culturally diverse college students. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted to estimate the prevalence and predictors of food insecurity for US-born White, US-born Multicultural, and International students aged 18-34 at a Midwest university.

Photodegradation of azilsartan yields a phenanthridine derivative (APP). We suspected that APP could be a DNA-reactive substance, since many phenanthridine derivatives are mutagenic. In silico quantitative structure-activity relationship analysis indicated potential mutagenicity of APP, due to DNA reactivity at the 6-aminophenanthridine moiety.

The toxicokinetics of nitrosamines remain a mystery to this day, though it appears that the role of nitrosamines in potentiating the generation of mutations required for the onset of skin cancer continues to be a significant concern. Nitrosamines are mutagens, genotoxic substances, and mediators of phototoxicity/carcinogenicity, whose long-term daily usage, in the context of polypharmacy, can result in the parallel appearance of heterogeneous forms of skin cancer: keratinocytic and melanocytic. But a number of clinical observations suggest that it is the nitrosamines that potentiate the multiple occurrences of skin cancer over the years, or recurrences of skin cancer localized in areas exposed to solar radiation.

Purpose: The Youth Activity Profile (YAP) is a 7-day self-report designed to quantify physical activity and sedentary behaviors among youth. This study evaluated the reliability of the online version of the YAP and equivalence with the paper-based version.

Method: A total of 2,490 participants from 17 schools in Iowa and Texas completed the YAP.
