The authors describe a procedure for producing the antigen by using a promastigotic suspension of the high-virulent inoculative strain Leishmania major. A Leishmania culture medium was improved to enhance the yield of parasites up to 1-3 billion cells in a flask. The grown culture was washed off with isotonic sodium chloride solution, from the medium residues and concentrated up to 1 billion cells per ml of the cvolume. The cell concentrate contained no rabbit blood additive, as evidenced by the gel double diffusion test. The combinations of destruction via multiple freezing-unfreezing or lyophilization, followed by ultrasound treatment were found to be the best modes of promastigotic disintegration. The antigenic suspension generally displayed 3-5 precipitation lines with hyperimmune rabbit sera and 1-3 precipitation lines with sera from the infected animals. The number of precipitation lines is higher in the suspension from the high-virulent Leishmania strains. Fractions of protective antigens have not been detected so far.

Climate change is expected to lead to an increase in precipitation and flooding. Consequently, plants that are adapted to dry conditions have to adjust to frequent flooding periods. In this study, we investigate the flooding response of , a Mediterranean plant adapted to warm and dry conditions.

Background: The biological significance of MAF1, a tumor suppressor, in carcinogenesis and immune response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unreported. Understanding the underlying mechanisms by which MAF1 enhances anti-tumor immunity in HCC is crucial for developing novel immunotherapy strategies and enhancing clinical responses to treatment for patients with HCC.
Methods: Mice were subjected to hydrodynamic tail vein injections of transposon vectors to overexpress AKT/NRas, or c-Myc, with or without wild-type (WT) or mutant-activated (-4A) MAF1, or short-hairpin MAF1 (shMAF1).
Background: Antibiomania is the manifestation of manic symptoms secondary to taking an antibiotic, which is a rare side effect. In these cases, the antibiotics most often incriminated are macrolides and quinolones, but to our knowledge, there are no published cases of antibiomania secondary to cotrimoxazole. Furthermore, we also provide an update of pharmacovigilance data concerning antibiomania through a search of the World Health Organization (WHO) database.

Background/objectives: The aim was to study the possibilities of biomedical application of gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (GdO NPs) synthesized under industrial conditions, and evaluate their physicochemical properties, redox activity, biological activity, and safety using different human cell lines.
Methods: The powder of GdO NPs was obtained by a process of thermal decomposition of gadolinium carbonate precipitated from nitrate solution, and was studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX). The redox activity of different concentrations of GdO NPs was studied by the optical spectroscopy (OS) method in the photochemical degradation process of methylene blue dye upon irradiation with an optical source.
Background: Delayed reactions to hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers have been reported following various immunologic and infectious triggers.
Aim: Herein, we describe cases of delayed immunologic reactions (DIRs) following HA-soft tissue augmentation fillers precipitated by triggers not previously described in the literature. Patients: Case 1 describes a 57-year-old female with DIR to HA-filler following a motor vehicle accident in the marionette lines and nasolabial folds.
