The general proteolytic activity and the level of proteinase inhibitors in salivary glands and blood serum of rats with acute stress were studied during the experiment. With the explosive development of nanotechnology, engineered nanomaterials are currently being used in various industries, including food and medicine. Concern about the health effects of nanomaterials has been raised, and available research indicates that the relative surface area of nanomaterials seems to correlate with the severity of their toxicity. With regard to engineered nanomaterials, the scope of their acute and chronic toxicities and their mechanisms are not fully understood.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a heterogeneous clonal disorder characterized by insufficient hematopoiesis, peripheral blood cytopenia and an increased risk for malignant transformation to acute myeloid leukemia. Several factors, such as age, sex and lifestyle, promote the development of MDS syndrome. Oxidative stress, along with its detrimental effects, cause hematological disorders; however, its role in the pathogenesis of MDS is unknown.

Background/aims: Digestive disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) are very common, predominant in females, and usually associated with intestinal barrier dysfunction, dysbiosis, and stress. We previously found that females have increased susceptibility to intestinal barrier dysfunction in response to acute stress. However, whether this is associated with changes in the small bowel microbiota remains unknown.

Purpose: Trauma disorders are prevalent and confer high rates of psychiatric comorbidity and functional impairment. Women are more likely to be affected by trauma disorders; however, rates and symptom burden in women's inpatient psychiatric units remains understudied. We hypothesized the prevalence of probable posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) would be higher among women admitted to a women's inpatient unit compared to women in the general population and mixed gender units.
