The diagnostic possibilities and limitations of A-mode ultrasound of maxillary sinus diseases are presented. A group of 219 subjects suffering from various sinus diseases was examined. All cases were analyzed in parallel by means of X-rays, sinoscopy and ultrasonography. The investigated group was divided into seven subgroups, according to clinical entity (polypoid degeneration, polyps, cysts, et cetera). The comparison of the three techniques was made for each clinical entity. Some divergent findings that can be reached by these techniques were explained from the clinical point of view as well. The ultrasound A-mode technique plays a complementary role in the diagnostic process of maxillary sinus diseases. The main advantages of ultrasound technique are its harmlessness and non-invasivity.

Background And Purpose: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) are the most common causes of chronic sinusitis from systemic granulomatous diseases. While both are small- to medium-sized vasculitis with necrotizing granulomas, they have different clinical courses and prognoses. High-density sinus opacification has been reported in allergic fungal sinusitis with eosinophilic infiltrates.

Our case report characterizes a rare presentation of mid-ventricular Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) in a patient with suspected myocarditis as an underlying cause. Mid-ventricular TTC is a rare variant of TTC presenting with overlapping symptoms and physical exam findings of acute coronary syndrome, which often leads to misdiagnosis as myocardial infarction. Our case is of a 77-year-old female patient with a history of hyperlipidemia, right breast ductal carcinoma in situ, and diverticular disease who presented to the emergency department for evaluation of chest pain radiating to the jaw with associated nausea and vomiting.

Among acute mastoiditis (AM) complications, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is particularly severe, leading to increased intracranial pressure and potential neurological sequelae. Predicting the development of such complications is challenging. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the incidence, clinical characteristics, and risk factors for the development of CVST in AM.

Dental implantation in the posterior maxilla is challenging due to anatomic proximity to the sinuses, relative bone quality, and pre-existing sinus diseases. An oroantral fistula (OAF) acts as a pathologic pathway of bacteria and can cause sinus infections and complicate dental implant management. Bony augmentation between the sinus floor mucosa and the oral mucosa at the OAF closure site is another critical consideration.
