In a model of perinatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI) we examined the neuroprotective efficacy of pre- and post-treatment with the glutamate release inhibitor BW1003C87 [5-(2,3,5-trichlorophenyl)-2,4-diamino-pyrimidine). Ipsilateral brain damage developed in 99% of rat pups subjected to HI (unilateral common carotid artery ligation and 100 min of 7.7% oxygen exposure) with a 26 +/- 16% (mean +/- S.D.) weight deficit of the damaged hemisphere 2 weeks after the insult. Pre-treatment with BW1003C87 (10 mg/kg intraperitoneally) reduced the brain damage by 46% (P < 0.05). A higher dose (20 mg/kg) of pre-treatment was not tolerated. Administration of BW1003C87 did not affect the rectal temperature of the rats. Post-treatment with BW1003C87 (10-30 mg/kg) offered no neuroprotection in this model. In conclusion, there was a neuroprotective effect from pre- but not post-treatment with BW1003C87 in this model, supporting the concept that intra-ischemic excitatory amino acid release is important for development of brain damage. The lack of post-treatment effect indicates that BW1003C87 did not attenuate deleterious EAA cycling during reflow in the neonatal brain.

Subglottic stenosis (SGS) presents a rare, yet challenging condition characterized by airway obstruction below the glottis, with diverse etiologies ranging from congenital to acquired factors like intubation or autoimmune diseases. Diagnosis and management of SGS during pregnancy are particularly complex due to limited literature and diagnostic consensus. This article presents a case of a 26-year-old pregnant woman presenting with escalating dyspnea and stridor attributed to SGS, most likely secondary to idiopathic etiology.

Introduction Sleep disorders are prevalent among psychiatric patients, and pharmacological treatments such as melatonin, trazodone, and doxepin are commonly prescribed. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and acceptability of these three medications in improving sleep quality and reducing daytime drowsiness in psychiatric patients. Methodology A total of 175 psychiatric patients with sleep disturbances participated in this cohort study at the Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences, Muzaffarabad, Pakistan.

Background: WEB shape modification has been analyzed in relation to the aneurysm occlusion outcome and techniques have been presented with one-dimensional measurements of the device to quantify the change after implantation. In this work, we present an analysis of pre-treatment vascular morphology and hemodynamics of cases treated with WEB devices, which were three-dimensionally quantified in morphology and position to detect modifications.
Methods: Seventeen WEB-treated aneurysms with pre-treatment, post-treatment and follow-up 3D flat-panel CT were included.

Background: This study examines the role and effectiveness of double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) in managing hyperlipidemiclipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP).
Methods: Comparative analysis was conducted between two groups: one treated with DFPP and one without. Comparative parameters included blood lipid levels, inflammatory factors, vital signs, disease severity scores, and complication rates.

Assessment of the quality of orthodontic care in a UAE-based orthodontic postgraduate training institution was conducted using multiple indices, including the Peer Assessment Rating (PAR), American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System (ABO-OGS), and Index of Complexity Outcome and Need (ICON). Retrospective evaluation of pre- and post-treatment records of patients (n = 201) treated with fixed orthodontic appliances was performed by two examiners Statistical analysis assessed the influence of gender, type of malocclusion, need for extraction, missed appointments and number of treating residents on treatment duration. The average numerical reduction of the PAR and ICON scores at the start and end of the treatment were 17.
