The instability of the undecapeptide substance P (SP), a neuropeptide implicated in several physiological processes, was occasionally observed when the peptide was stored in the solid state or in solution. The aim of the present study was to identify the decomposition products of SP stored as lyophilized peptide or in aqueous neutral solution. The main pathway of the decomposition of SP acetate consists of the subsequent release of N-terminal dipeptides via their diketopiperazines, cyclo(Arg-Pro) and cyclo(Lys-Pro). In contrast to the decomposition of the acetate of SP, the hydrochloride and trifluoroacetate salts were found to be considerably more stable. Under the studied conditions the release of N-terminal dipeptides dominates over other possible routes of spontaneous modifications, such as S-oxidation and deamidation.

Conventional methods for extracting rare earth metals (REMs) from mined mineral ores are inefficient, expensive, and environmentally damaging. Recent discovery of lanmodulin (LanM), a protein that coordinates REMs with high-affinity and selectivity over competing ions, provides inspiration for new REM refinement methods. Here, we used quantum mechanical (QM) methods to investigate trivalent lanthanide cation (Ln) interactions with coordination systems representing bulk solvent water and protein binding sites.

Phenols are important functional compounds present in vineagr, however, their composition and formation pathways remain uncertain. Herein, non-targeted metabolomics and macrotranscriptomics methods were applied to identify phenols and analyze their formation network during the brewing process of Shanxi aged vinegar. A total of 82 phenols were detected from the raw material and the brewing process.

This study focuses on the extraction of phenolic compounds from the fermentation of and . The main goal was to synthesize phenol/chitosan microspheres and PVA films and characterized using FTIR, TGA, DSC, SEM, and mechanical tests to evaluate their physical, chemical, and mechanical properties for antimicrobial packaging applications. Homogeneous chitosan microspheres loaded with lignin-derived phenols were obtained, showing controlled release of antimicrobial compounds.

We present a novel method for preparing bioactive and biomineralized calcium phosphate (mCP)-loaded biopolymer composite scaffolds with a porous structure. Two types of polymers were investigated as matrices: one natural, cellulose acetate (CA), and one synthetic, polycaprolactone (PCL). Biomineralized calcium phosphate particles were synthesized via wet chemical precipitation, followed by the addition of organic biominerals, such as magnesium gluconate and zinc gluconate, to enhance the bioactivity of the pure CP phase.

This study investigates whether 17β-estradiol (E2), a natural estrogen and one of the endocrine-disrupting chemicals responsible for water pollution, can be oxidatively decomposed under simulated solar light using a composite of tin oxide nanoparticles and graphene-like carbon nitride (g-CN) as a photocatalyst. The composite photocatalyst was prepared by heating a mixture of urea and tin acetate. FT-IR measurements revealed that g-CN possesses structural units similar to g-CN, a well-studied graphite-like carbon nitride.
