Gentisic acid protects Sprague-Dawley rats from myocardial infarction through reversing electrocardiographical, biochemical and histopathological abnormalities.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

January 2025

Cardiovascular Research Group, Department of Pharmacy, COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, University Road, Tobe Camp, Abbottabad, 22060, KPK, Pakistan. Electronic address:

Gentisic acid (GA), a cytochrome P450 metabolite of the antiplatelet drug aspirin, exhibits smooth muscle relaxant, antiatherogenic, and antioxidant activities. It also has a protective role in hypertrophic heart failure, suggesting its role in the management of myocardial infarction (MI). This study aimed to explore the protective activity of GA in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced MI in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats in-vivo, followed by mechanistic investigation ex-vivo.

Syringaldehyde Alleviates Cardiac Hypertrophy Induced by Hyperglycemia in H9c2 Cells Through GLP-1 Receptor Signals.

Pharmaceuticals (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy and Health Care, Tajen University, Pingtung 90741, Taiwan.

Cardiac hypertrophy is a significant complication of diabetes, often triggered by hyperglycemia. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists alleviate cardiac hypertrophy, but their efficacy diminishes under GLP-1 resistance. Syringaldehyde (SA), a natural phenolic compound, may activate GLP-1 receptors and mitigate hypertrophy.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia among the elderly, yet effective treatments remain elusive. Total saikosaponins (TSS), the primary bioactive components in , have shown promising therapeutic effects against AD in previous studies. : To delve deeper into the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic role of TSS in AD, we investigated its neuroprotective effects and associated molecular mechanisms in APP/PS1 mice.

Extrachromosomal circular DNAs (eccDNAs) has been found to be widespread and functional in various organisms. However, comparative analyses of pre- and post-infection of virus are rarely known. Herein, we investigated the changes in expression patterns of eccDNA following infection with cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus (BmCPV) and explore the role of eccDNA in viral infection.

Gut peptides, including glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), regulate metabolic homeostasis and have emerged as the basis for multiple state-of-the-art diabetes and obesity therapies. We previously showed that G protein-coupled receptor 17 (GPR17) is expressed in intestinal enteroendocrine cells (EECs) and modulates nutrient-induced GLP-1 secretion. However, the GPR17-mediated molecular signaling pathways in EECs have yet to be fully deciphered.
