In closed systems, the celebrated Lieb-Schultz-Mattis (LSM) theorem states that a one-dimensional locally interacting half-integer spin chain with translation and spin rotation symmetries cannot have a non-degenerate gapped ground state. However, the applicability of this theorem is diminished when the system interacts with a bath and loses its energy conservation. In this letter, we propose that the LSM theorem can be revived in the entanglement Hamiltonian when the coupling to the bath renders the system short-range correlated.

Due to much of medical training being inpatient centered, medical trainees generally do more pre-rounding on a per-patient basis than they do complete histories and physical exams (H&Ps). However, formal training often overlooks pre-rounding as a critical aspect of medical education and patient care, with at least 10 times more publications on H&Ps than on any other aspect of rounding over the past half-century. To address this critical gap in medical education, we introduce the "Lesss PAINFUL" pre-rounding mnemonic, emphasizing the importance of efficient pre-rounding for medical students or other trainees.

Perceptual fluency can increase familiarity of some of the items in recognition tests and enhance attributions of these items to the past. It is not clear, however, whether perceptual fluency can influence recognition under conditions promoting recollection-based memory. To this end, we performed a systematic replication of a study by Lucas and Paller (2013) using a letter-segregated method.

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Introduction: The 2019 COVID-19 pandemic had a global impact, leading to numerous deaths, long recovery times, and economic challenges worldwide, especially in countries with limited financial resources like Ethiopia. In Ethiopia, Hawassa lacks viral shedding information. Identifying predictors can help ease economic impact of illness.

Evaluation of parent reminder-recall letters to promote human papillomavirus vaccination.

Prev Med Rep

January 2025

Department of Quantitative Health Sciences, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905, USA.

Objective: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine uptake remains suboptimal. Our stepped-wedge cluster randomized trial found that reminder-recall letters sent to parents of age-eligible children significantly increased vaccine uptake compared to usual care. Subsequently, we conducted a process evaluation to assess the mechanisms of the letter's effectiveness.
