The survey includes data concerning structural proteins of coronaviruses obtained for the last ten years. It elucidates such problems as the proteins organization in the virion, heterogeneity of their composition, structure and biological properties, antigenic and immunobiological properties, prospects of creation of specific immunogenic anticoronavirus, prophylactic and diagnostic preparations.

Orthoflaviviruses are arthropod-borne viruses that are transmitted by mosquitoes or ticks and cause a range of significant human diseases. Among the most important tick-borne orthoflaviviruses (TBFVs) is tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), which is endemic in Eurasia, and Powassan virus, which is endemic in Asia and North America. There is a significant controversy regarding species assignment in the tick-borne encephalitis virus complex due to the complex phylogenetic, serological, ecological, and pathogenetic properties of viruses.

Immunobiological activity of selected decyl and (thio)dodecyl hexopyranosides based on d-glucose, d-galactose, N-acetyl d-glucosamine and d-mannose and their effect on leukemia cell lines L1210 and HL-60 and Candida's biofilm were studied. Alkyl d-glucosides and d-galactosides showed mainly similar antiproliferative properties on leukemia cell lines, while N-acetyl d-glucosaminides revealed diverse properties with lower efficacy. Also, the cytokine response of RAW 264.

Armond S. Goldman (1930-2023) and the development of the immunobiology of human milk.

J Med Biogr

Emeritus John P. McGovern Chair in Oslerian Education, The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX, USA.

The understanding of the immunobiology of human milk is primarily a 20th-century phenomenon, but, even with our contemporary understanding, it remains a bit of a mystery. Breastfeeding of human milk, although the most obvious and natural form of nutrition for human infants, has been hindered by cultural and societal norms since ancient times. Thus, not all infants have experienced the advantages this form of nutrition may offer.
