A rapid immunofluorescence format requiring 20 min for completion was as effective as conventional indirect and direct immunofluorescence procedures for detecting respiratory syncytial virus and influenza A virus antigens in clinical specimens. Rapid immunofluorescence was more sensitive than TestPack RSV and comparable to Directigen FLU-A immunosorbent assays, which require 20 min for completion.

Background/objectives: Differential diagnosis of sudden cardiac death (SCD) remains challenging, particularly in cases lacking evident structural abnormalities. Cardiac markers have been proposed as useful tools for this differentiation in forensic contexts. However, key issues include the influence of postmortem interval (PMI) on marker stability and the limitations of traditional approaches that focus on pericardial fluid, which requires invasive sampling compared to peripheral blood.

2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is one of the popular herbicides that is widely used in agriculture and can be found in food and water. A rapid and sensitive fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) was proposed for the detection of 2,4-D in juice and water. New tracers, 2,4-D-buthylenediamin fluoresceinthiocarbamyl (2,4-D-BDF) and 2,4-D-glycine aminofluorescein (2,4-D-GAF), were obtained and characterized.

The death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) is a key factor in the pathophysiology of all forms of glaucoma. RGC culture serves as a simple system for establishing and testing candidate therapies. This study aimed to explore the differentiation of primary retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) into RGC-like cells induced by low-dose cytarabine (Ara-C).

Objective: The mucosal origin hypothesis in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) posits that inhalant exposures, such as cigarette smoke and crystalline silica (c-silica), trigger immune responses contributing to disease onset. Despite the established risk posed by these exposures, the mechanistic link between inhalants, lung inflammation, and inflammatory arthritis remains poorly understood, partly from the lack of a suitable experimental model. As c-silica accelerates autoimmune phenotypes in lupus models and is a recognized risk factor for several autoimmune diseases, we investigated whether c-silica exposure could induce RA-like inflammatory arthritis in mice.

The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the necessity for rapid and adaptable drug screening platforms against live pathogenic viruses that require high levels of biosafety containment. Conventional antiviral testing is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Here, we outline the design and validation of a semi-automated drug-screening platform for SARS-CoV-2 that utilizes multiple liquid handlers, a stable A549 cell line expressing ACE2 and TMPRSS2 receptors, and a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 strain harboring the nano-luciferase gene.
