Tetraploid complementation is an ideal method for demonstrating the differentiation potential of pluripotent stem cells. In this study, we selected the most efficient tetraploid production method for porcine embryos and investigated whether tetraploid blastomere aggregation could enhance the quality of tetraploid embryos. Three methods were investigated to produce tetraploid embryos: First, tetraploid embryos were produced using electro-fusion of two-cell stage parthenogenetic blastomere (FUTP).

In vitro fertilization (IVF) systems using isolated gametes have been used to dissect post-fertilization events in angiosperms, as female plant gametophytes are deeply embedded within the ovaries. In addition, hybrid and polyploid zygotes can be produced by using IVF systems. Complete IVF systems of maize and rice, two out of three major energy-providing crops, have been established in order to acquire detailed knowledge of mechanisms of fertilization and early embryogenesis.

Local disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by pulsed electric fields shows significant potential for treating neurological conditions. Microfluidic BBB models can provide low-cost, controlled experiments with human cells and test a range of parameters for preclinical studies. We developed a multiplexed BBB device that can test a three-fold range of electric field magnitudes.
