Article Synopsis
  • Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) are highly potent natural toxins, and neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) offer an effective immunotherapy against them, with hybridoma technology being the go-to method for MAb production.
  • In this study, researchers isolated plasmablasts and activated memory B-cells from a donor who had received BoNT/A injections, then fused them with a cell line to create hybridomas that produce native human MAbs specific to BoNT/A.
  • Three hybridomas were successfully created, one of which (1B9) not only binds effectively to BoNT/A but also inhibits its catalytic activity, showing promise for effective treatment even in cases of low

Tetraploid embryo aggregation produces high-quality blastocysts with an increased trophectoderm in pigs.

Front Cell Dev Biol

November 2023

Laboratory of Veterinary Embryology and Biotechnology (VETEMBIO), Veterinary Medical Center and College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungbuk National University, Cheongju, Republic of Korea.

Tetraploid complementation is an ideal method for demonstrating the differentiation potential of pluripotent stem cells. In this study, we selected the most efficient tetraploid production method for porcine embryos and investigated whether tetraploid blastomere aggregation could enhance the quality of tetraploid embryos. Three methods were investigated to produce tetraploid embryos: First, tetraploid embryos were produced using electro-fusion of two-cell stage parthenogenetic blastomere (FUTP).

In vitro fertilization (IVF) systems using isolated gametes have been used to dissect post-fertilization events in angiosperms, as female plant gametophytes are deeply embedded within the ovaries. In addition, hybrid and polyploid zygotes can be produced by using IVF systems. Complete IVF systems of maize and rice, two out of three major energy-providing crops, have been established in order to acquire detailed knowledge of mechanisms of fertilization and early embryogenesis.

Phenotypic, molecular and biochemical evaluation of somatic hybrids between Solanum tuberosum and S. bulbocastanum.

Sci Rep

March 2022

Department of Genetics and Breeding, Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Kamýcká 129, 16500, Prague 6 Suchdol, Czech Republic.

Somatic hybridization has been frequently used to overcome sexual incompatibility between potato and its secondary germplasm. The primary objective of this study was to produce and evaluate somatic hybrids of Solanum tuberosum (Stub) and S. bulbocastanum (Sblb) for breeding purposes.

Local disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by pulsed electric fields shows significant potential for treating neurological conditions. Microfluidic BBB models can provide low-cost, controlled experiments with human cells and test a range of parameters for preclinical studies. We developed a multiplexed BBB device that can test a three-fold range of electric field magnitudes.
