[Establishment and application of an artificial intelligence-assisted platform for detection of parasite eggs].

Zhongguo Xue Xi Chong Bing Fang Zhi Za Zhi

August 2024

School of Basic Medical Sciences, Hubei University of Medicine, Shiyan, Hubei 442000, China.

Objective: To establish an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted platform for detection of parasite eggs, and to evaluate its detection efficiency and accuracy, so as to provide technical supports for elimination of parasitic diseases.

Methods: A total of 1 003 slides of , horkworm, , , , , , and eggs were collected, and converted into digital images with an automatated scanning microscope to create a dataset. Based on the Object Detection platform on the Baidu Easy DL model, an AI-assisted platform for detection of parasite eggs was created through procedures of uploading, labeling, training, evaluation and optimization.

Nest Site Selection by Green Sea Turtles () and Implications for Conservation on Qilianyu, Xisha Islands, South China Sea.

Ecol Evol

January 2025

Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Ecology of Tropical Islands, Key Laboratory of Tropical Animal and Plant Ecology of Hainan Province, College of Life Sciences Hainan Normal University Haikou China.

The green sea turtle () is the only sea turtle species that breeds in China, and the largest remaining nesting grounds for green sea turtles in Chinese waters is found on the Qilianyu atoll of the Xisha Islands. Nesting site selection is particularly important for egg survival, and understanding the microhabitat characteristics of green sea turtle nesting sites is crucial for delineating priority conservation areas for nesting grounds. In this study, we aimed to examine the role of several microhabitat ecological factors in the selection of nesting sites and the success of nesting.

Background: Numerous pathogenic variants causing human oocyte maturation arrest have been reported on the primate-specific TUBB8 gene. The main etiology is the dramatic reduction of tubulin α/β dimer, but still large numbers of variants remain unexplained.

Methods: Using microinjection mRNA and genome engineering to reintroduce the conserved pathogenic missense variants into oocytes or in generating TUBB8 variant knock-in mouse models, we investigated that the human deleterious variants alter microtubule nucleation and spindle assembly during meiosis.

Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections affect one-fourth of the global population and pose a significant threat to human and animal health, with limited treatment options and emerging drug resistance. (whipworm) stands out as a neglected disease, necessitating new drugs to address this unmet medical need. We discovered that several different chemical series of related human Provirus Integration sites for Moloney murine leukemia virus (PIM) family kinase inhibitors possess potent anthelmintic activity by using whole-worm motility assays.

Ovalbumin gene polymorphism: Implications for hatchability and egg quality changes during storage in Japanese quail.

Poult Sci

January 2025

Institute of Biological Bases of Animal Production, University of Life Sciences in Lublin, 13 Akademicka St., 20-950 Lublin, Poland.

The aim of the study was to identify polymorphisms in the ovalbumin gene - SERPINB14 gene and evaluate their effect on hatchability traits and egg quality changes during storage in two strains of Japanese quails: meat-type (F33) and laying-type (S22). To individually determine hatchability traits for each female, eggs were collected and incubated. To determine egg quality traits, 10 eggs were collected from each female and stored for 14 weeks.
