We evaluated the performance of the Du Pont aca ammonia procedure with regard to (a) linearity, (b) precision, (c) interferences, and (d) effect of anticoagulants. Linearity extends to 2,000 mumol/L. The SD of the method was essentially constant (2 to 3 mumol/L) and independent of the NH3 concentration. Hemoglobin, bilirubin, and lipemia do not interfere. Either EDTA or heparin is suitable as anticoagulant. Recovery of NH3 added to plasma samples averaged 102% (range: 97--107%). We established normal values by measuring NH3 in 188 plasma samples from apparently healthy individuals. The 95% confidence range is from 10 to 35 mumol/L. The aca ammonia method compares very well with that of Kingsley and Tager but correlates less strongly with that of Reinhold and Chung. We describe a protein-based solution with stable NH3 concentration that is suitable as a control material.

Article Synopsis
  • The electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (ENRR) offers a more sustainable alternative to the traditional Haber-Bosch process for ammonia production.
  • Researchers improved the ENRR by modifying the wettability of the catalyst surface, which enhanced nitrogen adsorption and reduced hydrogen evolution.
  • Their findings showed that superhydrophobic reduced-graphene oxide (rGO) significantly increased ammonia yield and efficiency compared to hydrophilic surfaces.

A high-carbohydrate diet lowers the rearing cost and decreases the ammonia emission into the environment, whereas it can induce liver injury, which can reduce harvest yields and generate economic losses in reared fish species. Macroalgae (SJ) has been reported to improve anti-diabetic, but the protective mechanism of dietary SJ against liver injury in fish fed a high-carbohydrate diet has not been studied. Therefore, a 56-day nutritional trial was designed for swamp eel , which was fed with the normal diet [20% carbohydrate, normal carbohydrate (NC)], a high carbohydrate diet (32% carbohydrate, HC), and a HC diet supplemented with 2.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on fermentation quality, mycotoxin concentrations, and microbial communities of whole-crop corn silages infested with mycotoxigenic fungi. Cultured spores (10 cfu/mL) of mycotoxigenic and were sprayed (5 mL) on corn forage on 27 July and 10 August 2018. On 21 August 2018, sprayed (FI; 3 plots) and unsprayed (NFI; 3 plots) corn forage were harvested at the 1/2 kernel milk line stage, followed by chopping and ensiling without inoculants (CON), or with (LB, 1 × 10 cfu/g FW), (LT, 1 × 10 cfu/g FW), or + (BT: both and applied at 0.

Single aerobic or anaerobic composting is reportedly as inefficient for removing antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) from animal manure. This study investigates the effects of ARG removal during aerobic combined with anaerobic composting (ACA) under different conditions. The results showed that a turning frequency of once a day, the proportion of swine manure and corn straw (3:1) and an anaerobic time of 6 days were the best operating conditions for ARG reduction (>95%, especially ermF: 99.
