Injuries to the inferior vena cava (IVC) carry high risks and mortality rates. We present a case of suprahepatic IVC injury that was successfully treated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft insertion without cardiopulmonary bypass. A 46-year-old woman was transferred to our trauma centre after a high-speed motor vehicle collision.

Background: To compare the performance of a new-generation cobalt-chromium balloon-expandable bare metal stent with a stainless steel platform for the treatment of iliac occlusive disease.

Methods: Consecutive patients treated for symptomatic iliac occlusive disease between 2014 and 2021 with the cobalt-chromium Dynetic-35 or the stainless steel Dynamic platform were retrospectively evaluated. Outcome measures included technical success, device- or procedure-related death, clinically-driven target lesion revascularization (CD-TLR), primary patency, and major index limb amputation up to 12 months.

The optimal surgical time after stent placement in obstructive colorectal cancer: impact on long-term survival of patients.

Tech Coloproctol

December 2024

Department of Colorectal Surgery, Changhai Hospital, Naval Medical University, Shanghai, 200433, China.

Objective: To investigate the optimal interval between self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) placement and radical surgery in patients with obstructive colorectal cancer.

Method: In this study, a retrospective research design was used to select 125 patients with obstructive colorectal cancer who underwent colonoscopic SEMS placement with subsequent radical surgery between February 2011 and November 2022 at Shanghai Changhai Hospital. In addition, their clinical data and therapeutic efficacy were examined.

The diagnosis of myeloid neoplasms with plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) differentiation can be challenging due to immunophenotypic overlap requiring detailed characterization by flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry. We describe two patients with a history of myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MDS/MPN) who presented years later with leukocytosis, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, and cachexia, with rapid clinical deterioration and death. Lymph node biopsy specimens revealed involvement by myeloid sarcoma with prominent pDC differentiation.

Expandable Fast Li-Ion Diffusion Network of Li-Rich Mn-Based Oxides via Single-Layer LiCo(Ni)O Segregation.

Adv Mater

December 2024

Beijing Key Laboratory of Theory and Technology for Advanced Batteries Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, P. R. China.

Li-rich Mn-based cathode materials exhibit a remarkable reversible specific capacity exceeding 250 mAh g, positioning them as the preferred choice for the next generation of high-energy density lithium-ion battery cathode materials. However, their inferior rate and cycling performance pose significant challenges. In this context, a Li-rich material incorporating an expanded fast Li-ion diffusion network has been successfully synthesized.
