Introduction: Household disinfectants and cleaning products (HDCPs), which involve a complex mixture of chemical ingredients, are commonly used in homes. HDCPs significantly contribute to chemical exposure in the indoor environment by releasing particles and volatile organic compounds while being used, potentially harming the respiratory health of those exposed.
Areas Covered: We provide an overview of scientific literature, especially from the last five years, regarding the (i) effects of using of HDCPs on adults' respiratory health; (ii) associations between prenatal or childhood exposure to HDCPs and children respiratory health.

Background: Inhalation injuries, caused by exposure to extreme heat and chemical irritants, lead to complications with speaking, swallowing, and breathing. This study investigates the effects of thermal injury and endotracheal tube (ETT) placement on the airway microbiome and inflammatory response. A secondary aim is to assess the impact of localized dexamethasone delivery via a drug-eluting ETT to reduce laryngeal scarring.

Objectives: We aimed to estimate the prevalence of chronic bronchitis (CB), examine its association with occupational exposure to irritants assessed by self-reporting or the Nordic job exposure matrix (N-JEM) stratified by smoking status and estimate the population-attributable fraction (PAF) of CB from occupational exposure.
Methods: A two-phased, cross-sectional design was used to analyse a random sample collected in 2013 and 2018 of the population aged 16-55 years in Telemark County, Norway. CB was defined as cough and sputum production for ≥3 months over 2 consecutive years.

Climate change will continue to impact allergic diseases in direct and indirect ways. Rising global temperatures are contributing to increased duration of pollen seasons, altered aeroallergen production and potency of allergens, and changes in the geographic distribution of allergenic plants that drive increased human exposure to aeroallergens and increased allergic disease morbidity. Climate change is inextricably linked with air pollution, the latter of which was shown to act as an adjuvant for allergic inflammatory processes promoting allergic sensitization.

Uncomplicated topical skin infections like impetigo, caused by gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, are a common global health issue, particularly affecting children. With increasing antimicrobial resistance, conventional treatments such as mupirocin are becoming ineffective, highlighting the necessity for new antimicrobial development. Fatty acids have long shown potential as novel antimicrobials, but their development has been limited by solubility and efficacy concerns in topical applications.
