Article Abstract

The local application of 8-OH-DPAT (0.5 or 2.5 micrograms/rat, 10 min) into the median, but not the dorsal, raphe nucleus resulted in a reversal of the catalepsy induced by the DA D2 receptor blocking agent raclopride (16 mg kg-1 s.c., 60 min). The local application of 8-OH-DPAT into serotonergic projection areas of the forebrain (dorso-lateral neostriatum, accumbens core; 0.5 or 2.0 micrograms/side) did not affect raclopride-induced catalepsy. Thus, the 5-HT1A autoreceptor in the median raphe nucleus is an important site of action for the reversal of DA D2 receptor antagonist-induced catalepsy by systemic administration of 5-HT1A receptor agonists, in the rat.

We investigate the effect of focused-ion-beam (FIB) irradiation on spin waves with sub-micron wavelengths in Yttrium-Iron-Garnet (YIG) films. Time-resolved scanning transmission X-ray (TR-STXM) microscopy was used to image the spin waves in irradiated regions and deduce corresponding changes in the magnetic parameters of the film. We find that the changes of Gairradiation can be understood by assuming a few percent change in the effective magnetizationof the film due to a trade-off between changes in anisotropy and effective film thickness.

Preparation of Hydroxyapatite-Aligned Collagen Sheets and Their Evaluation for Fibroblast Adhesion and Collagen Secretion.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

January 2025

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Materials and Chemical Technology, Institute of Science Tokyo, 2-12-1 Ookayama, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 152-8550, Japan.

The structure of many native tissues consists of aligned collagen (Col) fibrils, some of which are further composited with dispersed hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanocrystals. Accurately mimicking this inherent structure is a promising approach to enhance scaffold biocompatibility in tissue engineering. In this study, biomimetic sheets composed of highly aligned Col fibrils were fabricated using a plastic compression and tension method, followed by the deposition of HAp nanocrystals on the surface via an alternate soaking method.

Research progress of femoral head necrosis in HIV-infected patients.

Ann Med

December 2025

Department of Joint and Sports Medicine, Zhongnan Hospital, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China.

As life expectancy among patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) increases, a growing number of complications have been observed. This population displays an elevated risk of ischemic necrosis of the femoral head in comparison to the general population, which may be attributed to HIV infection, antiretroviral medication use, and hormone application. Patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) who also have necrosis of the femoral head tend to present at an earlier age, with a rapid disease progression and a high incidence of bilateral onset.

Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging plays a pivotal role in oncology for the early detection of metastatic tumors and response to therapy assessment due to its high sensitivity compared to anatomical imaging modalities. The balance between image quality and radiation exposure is critical, as reducing the administered dose results in a lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and information loss, which may significantly affect clinical diagnosis. Deep learning (DL) algorithms have recently made significant progress in low-dose (LD) PET reconstruction.

Background: Nasal septal defects cause considerable morbidity and represent a challenging reconstructive problem. Traditional repair techniques have employed local intranasal tissues and allograft adjuncts. For large septal defects (>4-5 cm2), less than half are successfully resolved.
