To alleviate recurrent pericardial effusion secondary to systemic lupus erythematosus, pericardio-peritoneal window was performed. Subsequently, end stage renal disease developed and the patient required peritoneal dialysis. Patency of the pericardio-peritoneal window was demonstrated by intraperitoneal injection of Tc-99m SC through a Tenckhoff catheter, which prompted special counsel to the patient in order to prevent infectious pericarditis potentially complicating peritoneal dialysis induced-peritonitis.

BACKGROUND Pericardio-peritoneal windows are surgically created to treat symptomatic pericardial effusion, usually of oncological origin, to alleviate cardiac tamponade-like symptoms. Common complications include infection, failure to drain the fluid correctly, and arrythmias. There are few published cases of intra-abdominal complications due to these interventions.

Primary chylous pericardial effusion is a rare entity with few cases reported so far. We report a case of idiopathic etiology in a previously healthy 16-year-old boy. The patient presented with intermittent chest pain and dizziness caused by a chronic pericardial effusion.

The management of pericardial effusion with recurrent cardiac tamponade in disseminated malignancy is a therapeutic challenge. Treatment options include repeated aspirations, balloon pericardiostomy and surgical pericardial window with variable success at symptom palliation. We describe a safe and novel percutaneous technique of pericardio-peritoneal shunt for palliative treatment of malignancy associated massive pericardial effusion ina patient who declined surgery and had refractory pericardial effusion despite repeated pericardiocentesis, chemical pericardiodesis and balloon pericardiostom

Background: Although cardiac tamponade due to pericardial effusion is not frequently seen it may, in many cases require surgical drainage. The aim of this study is to show our experience with a laparoscopic approach to perform the pericardio-peritoneal window in the management of recurrent pericardial effusion.
Methods: We included 16 patients with recurrent pericardial effusion and echocardiographic global tamponade.
