The Authors report on their own experience of 77 lithium pacemaker implanted between 1974 and September 1977 in the Centre of Cardiac Surgery of the University of Genova (Italy). Only one generator has been replaced till now because of liquid infiltration. Rate variations in pacemaker marketed by Sorin were studied, considering the test-stand rate the first control and the following rate controls; the reliability of this parameter was confirmed.

In glucose biofuel cells (G-BFCs), glucose oxidation at the anode and oxygen reduction at the cathode yield electrons, which generate electric energy that can power a wide range of electronic devices. Research associated with the development of G-BFCs has increased in popularity among researchers because of the eco-friendly nature of G-BFCs (as related to their construction) and their evolution from inexpensive bio-based materials. In addition, their excellent specificity towards glucose as an energy source, and other properties, such as small size and weight, make them attractive within various demanding applied environments.

Introduction: Lithium is a medication used to treat bipolar disorder. It has a narrow therapeutic index, which frequently causes toxicity in patients.
Case Report: We present an unusual case of a 66-year-old female with a history of bipolar disorder on chronic lithium, who developed a third-degree heart block, encephalopathy, and acute renal failure because of lithium toxicity.

Cardiac pacemaker therapy began with successful stimulation of human hearts already in the first half of the 20th century. Complete implantation of a pacemaker by the cardiac surgeon Åke Senning on October 8, 1958 at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm is considered the actual birth of today's pacemaker therapy. The first pacemaker implantation in Germany was performed by Hans-Joachim Sykosch on October 6, 1961 at the Surgical Clinic of the University of Düsseldorf.
