To ensure high quality of food and water, the identification of traces of pathogens is mandatory. Rapid nucleic acid-based tests shorten traditional detection times while maintaining low detection limits. Challenging is the loss of nucleic acids during necessary purification processes, since elution off solid surfaces is not efficient.

Pigeon adenovirus type 1 predominantly infects pigeons under 12 months of age (mainly 3-5 months old), causing major clinical symptoms such as vomiting, dehydration, and discharge of thin yellow feces. In February 2023, an outbreak of a pathogen with symptoms similar to pigeon adenovirus infections occurred on a pigeon farm in Shandong Province, which was eventually identified as pigeon adenovirus type 1. In this study, a strain of PiAdV-1 was isolated from naturally infected pigeons and named pigeon-adenovirus-1-isolate-CH-SD-2023, and the hexon gene sequence as amplified and analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

Treatment options for viral infections are limited and viruses have proven adept at evolving resistance to many existing therapies, highlighting a significant vulnerability in our defenses. In response to this challenge, we explored the modulation of cellular RNA metabolic processes as an alternative paradigm to antiviral development. Previously, the small molecule 5342191 was identified as a potent inhibitor of HIV-1 replication by altering viral RNA accumulation at doses that minimally affect host gene expression.

The seasonal trends and profiles of respiratory viruses vary by region and season. Due to limited information and the population's vulnerability, we conducted the hospital-based surveillance of respiratory viruses in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Objectives: To investigate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic measures on hospitalizations and the alterations and persistence of the epidemiological patterns of 12 common respiratory pathogens in children during the COVID-19 pandemic and after the cessation of the "zero-COVID-19" policy in southern China.
Methods: Respiratory specimens were collected from hospitalized children with acute respiratory infections at Shenzhen Children's Hospital from January 2020 to June 2024. Twelve common respiratory pathogens were detected using multiplex PCR.
