Molecular and genetic techniques now allow selective tagging and manipulation of the population of neurons, often referred to as "engram cells," that were active during a specific experience. One common approach to labeling these cells is to use the transgenic mouse (TetTag). In addition to tagging cells active during learning, it is common to examine the reactivation of these cells using immediate early gene (IEG) expression as an index of neural activity.

Placental trophoblasts constitute the interface between the fetal and maternal environments and physically prevent maternal-fetal viral transmission. However, congenital human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection in the early stages of pregnancy results in severe symptoms in the fetus. HCMV is the most common causative agent of intrauterine infection.

Human papilloma virus (HPV) infections vary in their oncogenic potential, and whether an infection progresses to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) also depends on the immune response. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore biomarkers related to the immune system and cell proliferation, in combination with HPV classified as having high (HOP) or low oncogenic potential (LOP), that can possibly guide a more accurate identification of women following cervical cancer screening programmes in need for immediate follow-up with a biopsy. A next-generation sequencing transcriptomic immune profile analysis applied to 28 persistent CIN3 lesions and 14 normal biopsies identified four genes, the immune markers and and the tumour markers and , as possible markers for differentiating between CIN3 and normal tissue.

The hippocampus (HPC) is essential for navigation and memory, tracking environmental continuity and change, including navigation relative to moving targets. CA1 ensembles expressing immediate-early gene (IEG) Arc and Homer1a RNA are contextually specific. While IEG expression correlates with HPC-dependent task demands, the effects of behavioral demands on IEG-expressing ensembles remain unclear.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infects more than 90% of the human population worldwide and establishes lifelong infection in hosts by switching between latent and lytic infection. EBV latency can be reactivated under appropriate conditions, leading to expression of the viral lytic genes and production of infectious progeny viruses. EBV reactivation involves crosstalk between various factors and signaling pathways, and the subsequent complicated virus-host interplays determine whether EBV continues to propagate.
