Significant interstrain differences in intensity and character of changes in gastric mucosa induced by affecting the serotoninergic system, were found. The main mechanism of stress-induced stomach ulceration was found to involve brain serotonin in central regulation of the stomach blood flow. Use of exogenic amine and its precursor corroborated the serotonin-dependent ulceration of the stomach in mice.

The ethanol-induced BALB/c mice and human gastric epithelial cell (Ges-1 cell) models were used to investigate the Sargassum siliquastrum fucoidan (SFuc) gastroprotective capability. The injury score and histopathological sections of the stomach were used to evaluate the gastroprotective capability. The western blotting and RT-PCR methods determined the signaling mechanism of mice's gastric injury.

Wischnewsky spots are disseminated, dark lesions in gastric mucosa reflecting hemorrhage associated with fatal hypothermia, and are a phenomenon well known to forensic pathologists. We applied luminol and leucomalachite green tests to formalin-fixed gastric mucosa with Wischnewsky spots in autopsy cases of hypothermia. Both luminol and leucomalachite green tests showed positive reactions.
