The changes in the inclusion of 3H-phenylalanine, methyl-3H-thymidine, [2-14C]-thymidine and [5-3H]-uridine in the cells of pathogenic M. bovis-8, opportunistic M. fortuitum and saprophitic M. phlei, M. B-5 were comparatively investigated in introduction of 0.01 and 0.10% concentrations of the drug DP-2. It is shown that 0.10% DP-2 completely stops the radionuclides supply to the cells. It is suggested that the target of the drug may exist in the sphere of amino acid biosynthesis. The presence of DP-2 is capable of disturbing transport of substances to the cells.

The Warburg effect, which generates increased demand of glucose in cancer cells is a relatively underexplored phenomenon in existing commercial drugs to enhance uptake in cancer cells. Here, we present a chemotherapeutic strategy employing a Ru(II)-bis-bipyridyl-morphocumin complex (2) encapsulated in a self-assembling glucose-functionalized copolymer P(G-EMA-co-MMA) (where G=glucose; MMA=methyl methacrylate; EMA=ethyl methacrylate), designed to exploit this effect for enhanced selectivity in cancer treatment. The P(G-EMA-co-MMA) polymer, synthesized via reversible-addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, has a number average molecular weight (M) of 8000 g/mol.

Apple bagasse and orange peel were subjected to high-pressure homogenization (HPH), enzymatic hydrolysis (EH) and their combination (HPHE) to study their effect on oligosaccharide production and in vitro fermentability. The application of a cellulase-pectinase mixture on the by-products generated significant quantities of cellobiose (COS-2) and pectin derived oligosaccharides (POS) which were identified as mainly methylated and acetylated oligogalacturonides with DP 2-5 (POS 2-5). When pre-treating the substrates with HPH, the release in orange peel was enhanced significantly leading to a POS content of 44.

Bio‒production of alginate oligosaccharides (AOSs), a type of functional food additive, is a promising way for green utilization of algae, in which alginate hydrolyzing enzymes play a key role. A novel alginate lyase gene (MiAly17A) from a marine bacterium Microbulbifer arenaceous was heterologously expressed in E. coli.

Size-exclusion chromatography, HR-ESI-MS and FT-IR of copra meal hydrolyzed by ManB-1601 showed the presence of oligosaccharides (CM-β-MOS) having a degree of polymerisation (DP) between 2 and 4. Thermal decomposition studies of the purified CM-β-MOS (DP 2, 3 and 4) showed mass loss at high temperatures (135.8 °C to 600 °C).

In the framework of this study, dicationic herbicidal ionic liquids (HILs) containing tetramethylene-1,4-bis(decyldimethylammonium) and dodecylmethylene-1,12-bis(decyldimethylammonium), including two different herbicidal anions exhibiting different modes of action, were synthesized and characterized. One herbicide incorporated into the HILs was a tribenuron-methyl belonging to ALS inhibitors, while the second herbicidal anion was a synthetic auxin that acts as a growth regulator, namely 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate (2,4-D), 2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)propionate, (2,4-DP), 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetate (2,4,5-T), 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetiate (MCPA), 2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)propionate (MCPP), and 4-chlorophenoxyacetate (4-CPA). The obtained products were found to be unstable and decomposed, which can be attributed to the presence of an additional methyl group within the sulfonylurea bridge of the tribenuron-methyl.
