Article Abstract

Potentialities of a new detection method making use of photographic information transformers were demonstrated as exemplified by enzyme immunoassay of human chorionic beta-gonadotropin. Commercial enzyme immunoassay kits for measurements of human chorionic beta-gonadotropin manufactured by Diaplus joint venture were used in the study. The results of traditional spectrophotometric detection and photographic detection were in good correlation, the correlation coefficient r being equal to 0.882. The sensitivity of the method permits reliable testing of clinically significant gonadotropin concentrations in biologic fluids.

Objective: To investigate the effects of allylestrenol on sex hormone levels and delivery outcomes in women with threatened abortion.

Methods: This retrospective analysis examined clinical data of patients with threatened abortion treated at Huzhou Maternity & Child Health Care Hospital from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022. A total of 149 eligible patients were screened and divided into two groups: a control group (n=75) treated with progesterone capsules from January to December 2021, and an observation group (n=74) treated with allylestrenol from January to December 2022.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in the placenta can lead to fetal distress and demise, characterized by severe trophoblast necrosis, chronic histiocytic intervillositis (CHI), and massive perivillous fibrin deposition. We aimed to uncover spatial immune-related protein changes in SARS-CoV-2 placentitis compared with CHI placentas and uncomplicated pregnancies to gain insight into the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. Placentas were retrospectively collected from cases with SARS-CoV-2 placentitis resulting in fetal distress/demise (n = 9), CHI (n = 9), and uncomplicated term controls (n = 9).

Azoospermia, defined as the absence of sperm in the ejaculate, is a well-documented consequence of exogenous testosterone (ET) and anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) use. These agents suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, leading to reduced intratesticular testosterone levels and impaired spermatogenesis. This review examines the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying azoospermia and outlines therapeutic strategies for recovery.

Pulmonary artery choriocarcinoma mimicking pulmonary thromboembolism: a case report.

Department of Geriatric Respiratory Disease, Institute of Guangdong Provincial Geriatrics, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Background: Primary choriocarcinoma of the pulmonary artery is an exceedingly rare malignant neoplasm, which is often misdiagnosed due to its nonspecific clinical presentation. While this condition is characterized by the presence of trophoblastic cells, typically associated with gestational trophoblastic diseases, we encountered a case occurring in an extragenital location. The rarity of such tumors makes it challenging for clinicians to consider them in differential diagnosis, especially when the initial symptoms mimic more common conditions such as pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE).

The primary objective of this study was to review a methotrexate 90-mg fixed-dose protocol for treatment of ectopic pregnancy, and to evaluate if any characteristics were associated with ectopic pregnancy treatment failure. This was a single arm retrospective cohort study conducted at Kaiser Permanente Colorado. The primary outcome was to describe rates of ectopic pregnancy treatment failure among patients who received fixed dose(s) of methotrexate for ectopic pregnancy between January 1, 2007 and August 31, 2017.
