Eighty-five children with surgical parasurgical and pediatric abnormalities of upper abdominal organs were studied. In addition to the routine procedures, the authors used the following: endoscopic stepwise manometry, electromyography, polarography, pH-metry. In some chronic pediatric diseases, manometric, polarographic, electromyographic changes were found to correlate with the similar ones in surgical abnormalities. The findings provide strong evidence for the necessity of more comprehensive examinations of the duodenum in children with surgical and pediatric upper abdominal abnormalities in order to earlier detect the indications for surgical treatment, to assess the outcomes of treatment and to predict the course of rehabilitation.

Postoperative pancreatitis is an unusual complication of upper abdominal surgery that can result in severe morbidity and has been associated with postoperative death. It can be caused by trauma to the surface of the gland, injury to pancreatic ducts, vascular compromise, ductal obstruction within the pancreas parenchyma or because of duodenal stagnation. Our database of peritoneal surface malignancy patients was surveyed in a search for patients who manifested signs and symptoms of severe postoperative pancreatitis.

Background: The effectiveness and preferred reconstruction methods of pancreatectomy associated with vein resection (PAVR) for pancreatic cancer, especially for the extensive portal vein/superior mesenteric vein (PV/SMV) resections (more than 4 cm), are still subjects of debate. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and feasibility of PAVR by analyzing data from two large institutions from different regions.
Methods: From 2008 to 2018, we identified consecutive series of patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent PAVR at Karolinska University Hospital (KUH), Sweden, and Cancer Institute Hospital, Japanese Foundation of Cancer Research (JFCR), Japan.

Introduction: Breathing and postural control is reported to be both neuromuscularly and mechanically interdependent. To date, the effects of voluntary abdominal and thoracic breathing (VAB and VTB) on the EMG activity of muscles involved in both respiratory and postural functions, as well as gait biomechanics related to these breathing patterns, have not been investigated in young, healthy adults.
