Background: Preterm birth preceded by spontaneous preterm labour often occurs in the clinical setting of sterile intra-amniotic inflammation (SIAI), a condition that currently lacks treatment.

Methods: Proteomic and scRNA-seq human data were analysed to evaluate the role of IL-6 and IL-1α in SIAI. A C57BL/6 murine model of SIAI-induced preterm birth was developed by the ultrasound-guided intra-amniotic injection of IL-1α.

Background: Osteoporosis is a degenerative disease characterized by reduced bone mass, with low peak bone mass being the predominant manifestation during development and having an intrauterine origin. Pregnant women at risk of preterm delivery are commonly treated with dexamethasone to promote fetal lung development. However, pregnant dexamethasone exposure (PDE) can lead to reduced peak bone mass and susceptibility to osteoporosis in offspring.

Mounting evidence indicates that histone modifications are involved in aging-associated cognitive decline (AACD) and can be transmitted to offspring over multiple generations under conditions of stress. Here, we investigated the effects of maternal sub-chronic inflammation caused by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on AACD and histone modifications in the F1 and F2 generations of experimental mice as well as the potential sex specificity of intergenerational effects. In brief, F0-generation CD-1 dams were exposed to LPS (50 µg/kg) or saline (CON) during late pregnancy.

Allergenic components, biocides, and analysis techniques of some essential oils used in food products.

J Food Sci

June 2021

Department of Chemical Engineering, Engineering Faculty, Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Avcilar, Istanbul, 34320, Turkey.

Nowadays, almost 300 essential oils (EOs) are commonly traded in the world market, with a prediction to be worth over $14 billion in 2024. EOs are natural preservatives for food products in order to reduce the activity of pathogenic microorganisms, therefore their use as an antioxidant or a preservative in foods has been encouraged. They are not only considered as antimicrobial or flavoring agents, but are also incorporated into food packaging materials.

Introduction: Women with family history of diabetes (FHD) are at significantly increased risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus which may eventually lead to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in later life.

Objective: This study investigates the role of FHD on metabolic markers and gene polymorphisms and hence on T2DM susceptibility in nondiabetic pregnant women and the subsequent risks in their newborns.

Materials And Methods: The present study was conducted on 200 healthy (nondiabetic and normotensive) adult Asian Indian women, including 100 with and 100 without FHD, living in and around Kolkata, India.
