Objective: To determine the relative frequency of Blastomyces dermatitidis among other microorganisms in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) specimens.
Study Design: The study group consisted of 208 BAL specimens received from 192 patients from March 1988 to August 1993.
Results: Forty-seven specimens from 42 patients were positive for pathogenic microorganisms, and 2 other specimens were diagnostic of malignancy. Pneumocystis carinii (23 specimens) was the most common microorganism found in the specimens. Candida spp (10 specimens) was the second most common microorganism, and B dermatitidis (5 specimens) was the third. Cryptococcus neoformans (3 patients), Histoplasma capsulatum (2 patients) and Conidiobolus coronatus (1 patient) were the other fungi detected in BAL. Acid-fast bacilli, cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus were also found (1 patient each). Several patients had more than one organism.
Conclusion: B dermatitidis was the third most common microorganism found in BAL specimens at our hospital.

Introduction: is a perennial medicinal plant. It's generally cultivated for three years, and should avoid long-term continuous cultivation. However, unreasonable crop rotation and extensive fertilization are common in cultivation, which leads to the imbalance of soil microflora structure, and the obstacle of continuous cropping are becoming increasingly serious.

Diabetes mellitus represents a significant global health problem. The number of people suffering from this metabolic disease is constantly rising and although the incidence is heterogeneous depending on region, country, economic situation, lifestyle, diet and level of medical care, it is increasing worldwide, especially among youths and children, mainly due to lifestyle and environmental changes. The pathogenesis of the two most common subtypes of diabetes mellitus, type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 (T2DM), is substantially different, so each form is characterized by a different causation, etiology, pathophysiology, presentation, and treatment.

Background: Earlier studies conducted by Indian researchers have demonstrated that the elimination of tuberculosis (TB) requires proactive control of silicosis, given India's significant burden of silicosis and its common comorbidity, pulmonary TB, also known as silicotuberculosis. The TB Control Indian Health Authority saw human immunodeficiency virus infection, diabetes, and malnutrition, among others, as important risk factors for case findings, but overlooked the significance of silicosis. Silicotuberculosis control is often confronted with challenges of detecting microorganisms, uncertain treatment outcomes, a higher likelihood of mono-drug and multi-drug resistance, and increased mortality due to treatment failure.

Land-use changes threaten ecosystems and are a major driver of species loss. Plants may adapt or migrate to resist global change, but this can lag behind rapid anthropogenic changes to the environment. Our data show that natural modulations of the microbiome of grassland plants in response to experimental land-use change in a common garden directly affect plant phenotype and performance, thus increasing plant tolerance.

Bilateral preseptal cellulitis without accompanying sinusitis or skin trauma is uncommon. In this report, we present a case of bilateral preseptal cellulitis and an upper eyelid abscess in an otherwise healthy child. A nine-year-old girl presented with severe and progressive bilateral swelling of the upper lids that showed an unsatisfactory response to medical treatments (intravenous ceftazidime and vancomycin) and warranted a referral to our facility.
