The effect of excess ascorbic acid on the epiphyseal plate of young guinea pigs receiving prednisolone over a period of 28 days has been investigated. The results show that the structural and morphologic changes caused in the epiphyseal plate of the animals receiving prednisolone are prevented by the simultaneous administration of excess ascorbic acid. These data are consistent with the hypothesis that pharmacological doses of ascorbic acid given concurrently to children receiving prolonged treatment with corticosteroids may prevent suppression of growth in these children.

The formation of a stable alkyl At-C bond occurs during the shipment of At on a 3-octanone-impregnated column and the reactivity of At stripped from columns has been studied. The At could not be recovered from the 3-octanone organic phase using nitric acid or sodium hydroxide, even up to 10 and 15.7 M, respectively.

Hemorrhagic stroke (HS) mainly includes intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), both of which seriously affect the patient's prognosis. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) metabolites and HS showed a link in observational studies. However, the causal association between them is not clear.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a critical biomarker associated with various physiological and pathological processes, making its detection essential for disease diagnosis and biomedical research. In this study, we developed a novel, simple, and portable visual quantification method for ALP activity in cells using an efficient CuZnS nanomaterial with peroxidase-like properties, integrated into a smartphone-based platform for enhanced usability. The CuZnS nanomaterial catalyzes the breakdown of H₂O₂, generating ·OH radicals that oxidize the colorless substrate TMB into blue oxTMB, which is subsequently reduced back to TMB by ascorbic acid (AA).

The detection of biomarkers is crucial for assessing disease status and progression. Uric acid (UA), a common biomarker in body fluids, plays an important role in the diagnosis and monitoring of conditions such as hyperuricemia, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular disease. However, the low concentration of UA in non-invasive body fluids, combined with numerous interfering substances, makes its detection challenging.

Objective: To assess, clinically and instrumentally, the efficacy of a stabilized 12% Vitamin C (VC)-based serum (pH 6) on skin photoageing of women of various age and phototype.
Materials And Methods: Eighty women, with Phototypes I to VI, of various age (45-70y) living in Mauritius, participated in an open, uncontrolled study. After a two-week period of washout, they applied the Vitamin C-based serum twice a day for 2 months onto their whole face as well as a hydrating cream every evening to ensure a comparable skin hydration level in all subjects.
