Intrapericardial teratoma in early infancy produces critically severe cardiorespiratory distress and often results in the death of the infant. A recent patient in our newborn nursery displayed the distinctive combination of cardiorespiratory distress and enlargement of the "cardiothymic" silhouette. The echocardiographic demonstration of pericardial effusion and cardiac displacement suggested the diagnosis. Our patient's mass received the early recognition necessary for a successful surgical outcome.

Background: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has emerged as a critical intervention in the management of patients with trauma-induced cardiorespiratory failure. This study aims to compare outcomes in patients with severe thoracic injuries with and without venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO).

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study on Trauma Quality Improvement Program (2017-2021) and included all patients with isolated blunt thoracic injuries with Abbreviated Injury Scale score of ≥4 who required intubation.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, provide health benefits to the host. According to the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), probiotic supplementation can optimize the health, performance, and recovery of athletes at all stages of their careers. Recent research suggests that probiotics can improve immune system functions, reduce gastrointestinal distress, and increase gut permeability in athletes.

Acute cardiovascular disorders are incriminated in up to 33% of maternal deaths, and the presence of sickle cell anemia (SCA) aggravates the risk of peripartum complications. Herein, we present a 24-year-old Caribbean woman with known SCA who developed a vaso-occlusive crisis at 36 weeks of gestation that required emergency Cesarean section. In the early postpartum period, she experienced fever with rapid onset of acute respiratory distress in the context of COVID-19 infection that required tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilatory support with broad-spectrum antibiotics and blood exchange transfusion.

Heart failure due to acute mitral regurgitation (MR) may present with atypical findings on physical examination and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), making the diagnosis difficult. A 72-year-old male was transferred to our hospital with severe cardiorespiratory failure and was initially suspected to have severe pneumonia based on the acute onset and imaging findings. The patient was eventually diagnosed with acute heart failure secondary to MR.

Background: Venipuncture is a commonly performed but distressing procedure for children, often leading to significant pain and anxiety. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Pranic Healing, based on Rogers' Therapeutic Touch Nursing Theory, on the cardiorespiratory indices and pain associated with venipuncture in children.

Methods: This double-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted on a cohort of 46 school-aged children, selected via convenience sampling, at a hospital in Northern Cyprus.
