The semi-quantitative ASAT screening examination has been used in groups of children over a period of 3 years for detection of VH cases. In these groups, 79% of VH cases, being mostly anicteric and clinically unapparent, were detected in the focus of infection in addition to the index cases. The application of this method resulted in a decrease by about one half in additional VH cases occurring in the focus after the detection of the index case. The semi-quantitative ASAT screening examination meets all general criteria required for a good screening method.

S14 has been identified as a potent stimulator of de novo hepatic lipogenesis (DNL) in rodents. However, it is unclear how S14 is regulated in humans with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum S14 and liver steatosis in humans with NAFLD.

Currently, liver histology is the gold standard for the detection of liver fibrosis. In recent years, new methods such as transient elastography (TE) have been introduced into clinical practice, which allow a non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis. The aim of the present study was to investigate the predictive value of TE for higher grade fibrosis and whether there is any relevance which histologic score is used for matching.

Background: Abnormal levels of liver enzymes, particularly aminotransferases, are prognostic features of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Considering the important role of dietary intakes in development of NAFLD, we aimed to determine possible association of unhealthy foods (fast foods, soft drinks, sweet and salty snacks) consumption with elevated levels of aminotransferases.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted within the framework of sixth phase of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (2014-2017), on 187 adult men and 249 adult women (19-70 y).

Pazopanib is a multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) approved as first-line treatment for patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and as second-line treatment for patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) previously treated with chemotherapy. The most common adverse events, observed during the RCC and STS trials, were gastrointestinal disorders, hypertension, fatigue, elevated ALAT and ASAT, but the molecular mechanisms explaining pazopanib toxicity remain unclear. Therapeutic activity is considered to be mainly dependent on pazopanib exposure as the primary metabolites are inactive or display low plasma concentrations, but metabolites may be involved in toxicity as relationships between metabolite profiles and toxicity have not been evaluated.
