Reactivity of lymphocytes from P. hamadryas monkeys carrying malignant lymphomas, directed against soluble antigens from allogeneic lymphomas, was investigated, using macrophage electrophoretic mobility (MEM) test. Twenty-three monkeys have been examined. Fourteen of them carried malignant lymphoma, including those with initial manifestations of malignant lymphoma, animals with a generalized process and those in the period of spontaneous remission, and 9 control animals (8 healthy baboons and one animal wih hepatoma). The macrophage electrophoretic mobility reduction higher than 10% was considered as positive. A positive reaction was observed in 78% of monkeys with malignant lymphoma. The positive MEM-test was noted already in the initial stage of the disease, and it remained positive in the period of spontaneous remission.

Chemical signals are pivotal in establishing tritrophic interactions among host plants, herbivorous insects, and natural enemies. Previous studies have shown that evolutionarily conserved MaltOBPs in Monochamus alternatus and DhelOBPs in Dastarcus helophoroides contribute to the establishment of pine -pest - natural enemy tritrophic interactions by recognizing the same volatile emitted by the host during crucial developmental stages. We hypothesized that the transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of evolutionarily conserved OBPs respectively from pests and enemies are similar.

MarR family regulator LcbR2 activates lincomycin biosynthesis in multiple ways.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Department of Applied Biology, School of Biotechnology, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai 200237, China.

Lincomycin, produced by the actinomycete Streptomyces lincolnensis, is highly effective against Gram-positive bacteria and protozoans, making it widely used in clinical settings. This study identified LcbR2, a MarR family transcriptional regulator, as an activator of lincomycin biosynthesis. Knocking out the lcbR2 gene reduced lincomycin production by 63.

Adsorption and Bulk Assembly of Quaternized Hydroxyethylcellulose-Anionic Surfactant Complexes on Negatively Charged Substrates.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Departamento de Química Física, Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Ciudad Universitaria, Plaza de la Ciencias s/n, 28040 Madrid, Spain.

This study examines the adsorption and bulk assembly behaviour of quaternized hydroxyethylcellulose ethoxylate (QHECE)-sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) complexes on negatively charged substrates. Due to its quaternized structure, QHECE, which is used in several industries, including cosmetics, exhibits enhanced electrostatic interactions. The phase behaviour and adsorption mechanisms of QHECE-SDS complexes are investigated using model substrates that mimic the wettability and surface charge of damaged hair fibres.

(1) Background: Prostate cancer treatment efficacy is significantly influenced by androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathways. SLC22A3, a membrane transporter, has been linked to SNP rs9364554 risk loci for drug efficacy in prostate cancer. (2) Methods: We examined the location of SNP rs9364554 in the genome and utilized TCGA and other publicly available datasets to analyze the association of this SNP with transcription levels.
