In the Womens Hospital Peine from July 1, 1976 to December 31, 1979 503 artificial abortions were carried out by intracervical application of 3 mg PGF2-Alpha-Gel. In 82.5% of the cases patients had a spontaneous abortion or a cervical dilatation. Gastrointestinal side-effects were observed in 10.5% of the cases. 27.6% of the patients complained of acute pain. Complications due to the following mechanical dilatation did not occur. In three cases patients went into a state of shock after the gel-application. This, however, was quickly reversible. A systemic reaction an occur when PGF2-Gel is applied locally.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transdermal glycerol trinitrate skin patches as an additive and effective agent for facilitating cervical ripening for labour induction.

Methods: This was a double-blinded prospective randomised clinical trial carried out in a major obstetric unit in India. Women who planned for labour induction were randomly allocated for induction either by combined application of glycerol trinitrate skin patches [GTN patch] and intracervical dinoprostone gel or by the gel only.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of vaginal pH on efficacy of intracervical dinoprostone gel (PGE2) for labour induction, progression and induction delivery interval. A cross-sectional study was done among 150 term pregnant women planned for induction with unfavourable Bishop's score ≤5. Women were categorised into two groups based on vaginal pH >4.
