Objective: To develop a model for preoperatively predicting postcardiotomy cardiogenic shock (PCCS) in patients with poor left ventricular (LV) function undergoing cardiac surgery.

Methods: From the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Database, 11,493 patients with LV ejection fraction ≤35% underwent isolated on-pump surgery from 2018 through 2019, of whom 3428 experienced PCCS. In total, 68 preoperative clinical variables were considered in machine-learning algorithms trained and optimized using scikit-learn software.

The stability of perovskite quantum dot solar cells is one of the key challenges of this technology. This study reveals the unique degradation behavior of cesium lead triiodide (CsPbI) quantum dot solar cells. For the first time, it is shown that the oxygen-induced degradation and performance loss of CsPbI quantum dot photovoltaic devices can be reversed by exposing the degraded samples to humidity, allowing the performance to recover and even surpass the initial performance.

[Research progress on anti-aging effects of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN)].

Sheng Li Xue Bao

December 2024

College of Veterinary Medicine, Shaanxi Centre of Stem Cells Engineering & Technology, Northwest A&F University, Yangling 712100, China.

β-Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), as the precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), plays an important role in enhancing NAD levels. Intake of NMN can alter the composition and vitality of gut microbiota, restore mitochondrial function, inhibit inflammatory pathways, improve metabolism, counteract oxidative stress, and alleviate inflammation. NMN significantly improves recovery from aging-related diseases, such as diminished heart function, reduced fertility, memory decline, and diabetes.
