Low-temperature phase (β-form) barium borate (BBO) is one of the most important nonlinear crystals that has been widely used for optical second-harmonic generation (SHG), especially with femtosecond sources. There was growing interest in its applications in the direct generation of terahertz (THz) radiations, but it was hindered by the lack of knowledge of its basic properties in the THz range. In a recent study based on first-principles quantum chemistry calculation, we found that the theoretically calculated refractive indices of β-BBO in the THz frequency range do not agree with the previously reported values.

Asymmetric cell division (ACD) allows daughter cells of a polarized mother to acquire different developmental fates. In , the Wnt/β-catenin Asymmetry (WβA) pathway regulates many embryonic and larval ACDs; here, a Wnt gradient induces an asymmetric distribution of Wnt signaling components within the dividing mother cell. One terminal nuclear effector of the WβA pathway is the transcriptional activator SYS-1/β-catenin.

Objectives: To adapt and apply a model for evaluating the functional benefits and cost efficiency of specialist inpatient rehabilitation to the Australian context, comparing functional outcomes and savings in the cost of ongoing care after acquired brain injury.

Design: An observational cohort analysis of prospectively collected clinical data from admission to discharge, with follow-up to 3 years.

Setting: A newly established state-wide inpatient postacute rehabilitation unit in Victoria, Australia for patients with moderate to severe acquired brain injury.

Military members and female sex workers (FSWs) may be more likely to acquire or transmit HIV. Mapping HIV transmission across these high-risk populations and identifying behaviors associated with sexual network clustering are needed for effective HIV prevention approaches. A cross-sectional study recruited participants newly diagnosed with HIV among militaries, civilians, and FSWs in Zambia, Senegal, and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Groupe Hospitalier Pitié-Salpêtrière, Institut de Myologie, AP-HP, Sorbonne Université, Paris, France.

Background: Monoclonal gammopathy (MG) has been reported in association with numerous neurological disorders but the spectrum of MG-associated myopathies remains poorly described.

Objective: To report a newly acquired myopathy associated with MG.

Methods: Three adult patients with the same phenotype from two French referral centers were prospectively analyzed.
