Bupropion is used as smoking cessation drug and antidepressant. Drug overdose has multi-system involvement including neurotoxicity and cardiovascular collapse. Use of haemoperfusion in bupropion toxicity is generally not useful, however in life-threatening condition it could be a life saver.

This comprehensive review examines the latest developments in improving the blood compatibility of hemoperfusion adsorbents. By leveraging advanced coating and modification techniques, including albumin-collodion, cellulose, hydrogel, and heparin coatings, notable enhancements in blood compatibility have been achieved across diverse adsorbent types, such as carbon-based, resin-based, and polysaccharide-based materials. Despite promising laboratory results, the intricate manufacturing processes and elevated costs present significant challenges for broad clinical application.

Efficient adsorbents for excess bilirubin removal are extremely important for the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia. However, traditional adsorbents, such as activated carbons and ion-exchange resins, still suffer from dissatisfactory adsorption performance and poor blood compatibility. Herein, we adopted a rational design strategy guided by density functional theory (DFT) calculations to prepare blood-compatible quaternary ammonium group grafted electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofiber adsorbents.

Rapid reduction of plasma triglycerides (TG) is believed to improve the outcome of pancreatitis in the context of hypertriglyceridaemia (HTG)-induced acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP). Previous studies have suggested that haemoperfusion (HP) with the Jafron cartridge series could be effective for reducing TG concentrations in patients with HTG-AP. However, the clearance capacity (CC) for TG removal has not been reported.
