: Working memory (WM) involves temporarily storing and manipulating information. Research on the impact of aging on WM has shown inconsistent results regarding the decline in visual and verbal WM, with a lack of studies on tactile WM. This study aimed to assess the effects of aging on WM across verbal, visuospatial, and tactile modalities using span tasks of forward (storage) and backward (manipulation) stages.

Adaptation of reactive saccades (RS), made toward the sudden appearance of stimuli in our environment, is a plastic mechanism thought to occur at the motor level of saccade generation. As saccadic oculomotor commands integrate multisensory information in the parietal cortex and superior colliculus, adaptation of RS should occur not only toward visual but also tactile targets. In addition, saccadic adaptation in one modality (vision or touch) should transfer cross-modally.

Several previous studies reported reduced leftward lateralization in blind participants' samples compared to the sighted population. The origins of this difference remain unknown. Here, we tested whether functional lateralization is connected with the structural characteristics of white matter tracts [corpus callosum (CC), uncinate fasciculus (UF), and superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF)], as suggested by previous studies conducted in the typical sighted population.

Background: Cochlear implantation (CI) surgery has become a prevalent method of hearing rehabilitation, since it has been acknowledged that it impacts effectively on the vestibular system. However, there is still no consensus among clinicians on the most appropriate age and area (lateral/bilateral) of CI surgery in terms of postural control. The present study aimed to assess the postural control in late lateral CI adolescents with different visual (eyes opened(EO)/eyes closed(EC)) and auditory (CI activated/deactivated) conditions and to build a theoretical model of postural control based on sensual compensatory mechanisms that are predominant in late CI individuals.
