A lipophilic piceid lipoate (PIL) was synthesized by enzymatic method to enhance the antioxidant activity of piceid and improve its state in oil system. The highest substrate conversion of 93.71 % was obtained in γ-valerolactone using Novozym 435 as a catalyst, with a piceid/lipoic acid ratio of 1:15 (mM/mM), an enzyme dosage of 40 mg/mL, and 4 Å molecular sieves at 400 mg/mL.

Vitamin B, or pantothenate, forms the molecular "backbone" of coenzyme A (CoA), which is essential for more than a hundred biochemical reactions in humans. Genetic defects that disrupt the CoA pathway cause severe degenerative disorders that may be amenable to treatment with compounds that can bypass the metabolic block. The pantothenate metabolite, 4'-phosphopantetheine (4'PPT), can serve as an alternative substrate for cellular CoA synthesis and may therefore be an essential nutrient in managing disorders where pantothenate cannot meet all metabolic requirements.

De novo lipogenesis (DNL) is the process whereby cells synthesize fatty acids from acetyl-CoA, contributing to steatosis in fatty liver disease. Two new studies, using genetic mouse models, metabolomics, and pharmacology, identified alternative pathways in DNL and unexpected physiological effects when targeting key enzymes in this pathway.

Surgical intervention is currently the primary treatment for hepatolithiasis; however, some patients still experience residual stones and high recurrence rates after surgery. Cholesterol metabolism seems to play an important role in hepatolithiasis pathogenesis. A high cholesterol diet is one of the significant reasons for the increasing incidence of hepatolithiasis.
