Headspace electron-capture-gas chromatographic methods are described for the quantification of vinylidene chloride monomer in poly(vinylidene chloride) containing films and in film-packaged foodstuffs. Quantification of vinylidene chloride was possible at levels down to 0.001 mg/m2 in the films and 0.005 ppm in the foodstuffs. The results of a small survey of the amounts of this compound in packaging films and foodstuffs purchased from retail outlets are reported.

Chlorinated polymers have made enormous contributions to materials science and are commercially produced on a large scale. These chlorinated polymers could be recycled as chlorine sources to efficiently produce valuable chlorinated compounds owing to their facile release of HCl. Although the thermal stability of PVDC is low compared to PVC, this can be advantageous in terms of easy and fast dehydrochlorination.

Pollution with microplastics (MPs), nanoplastics (NPs) and trace elements (TEs) remains a considerable threat for mangrove biomes due to their capability to capture pollutants suspended in the water. This study investigated the abundance and composition of plastics and TEs contained in the soil and pneumatophores of sampled in experimental areas (hotel, market, river mouth, port, and rural areas) differentiated in anthropopressure, located in Bima Bay, Indonesia. Polymers were extracted and analyzed with the use of a modified sediment isolation method and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

Unlike fluorescence, room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) has never been utilized to monitor the dynamic variation of polymer. In the present study, acrylate-vinylidene chloride (VDC) copolymers were doped with a good RTP molecule, N-hydroxyethyl 4-bromo-1,8-naphthalimide (HBN). During the maturation process, marked RTP-intensity enhancement of HBN was observed due to the crystallinity increase of copolymers, verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).

Gosha-jinki-gan (GJG) and Keishi-bukuryo-gan (KBG) are Kampo traditional herbal prescriptions used for different clinical patterns () that improve blood flow. The pharmacological basis of the therapeutic choice remains unclear, although the clinical reliance of this pattern-based therapy is widely proven. We aimed to investigate their effects on microcirculation and nitric oxide (NO) kinetics using a live-imaging system to provide evidence for this.
