Background Thiopurine metabolites, 6-thioguanine (6TG) and 6-methylmercaptopurine (6MMP), are monitored to aid therapeutic management of thiopurine drugs. At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), thiopurine metabolites are measured by high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV). Whole blood samples are lysed and subjected to hydrolysis with derivatisation of 6MMP before HPLC-UV detection at 304nm for the 6MMP-derivative and 342nm for 6TG.

In this study, nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (N-CDs) with temperature and fluorescence sensing were prepared via hydrothermal method using L-lysine and ethylenediamine as precursors. The synthesized N-CDs exhibited spherical morphology with sizes ranging from 2.8 to 5.

Background: The concentration monitoring of the banned metronidazole (MTZ) drug as the alarmed carcinogenic agent in human biofluids is medically essential. The electrochemical aptasensors are good candidates to overcome some presence challenges in the detection process.
Results: Herein, an electrochemical aptasensor based on nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon dots (NcS-CDs) has been developed for the high-sensitive detection of MTZ for the first time.

Milk is an important consumer product with high nutritional value. The presence of veterinary drug residues in milk owing to the indiscriminate use of veterinary drugs may affect consumer health. In the mass spectrometric analysis of trace compounds, chromatographic co-eluting components easily interfere with the mass spectral signals obtained, affecting the accuracy of qualitative and quantitative analyses.

The widespread use and misuse of antibiotics in pharmaceuticals and animal farming has resulted in their accumulation in food sources and the environment, posing significant threats to human health, the environment, and the global economy. In this study, we have developed a hypersensitive, and ultra-selective electrochemical sensor, the first of its kind, by integrating a thermally annealed gold-silver alloy nanoporous matrix (TA-Au-Ag-ANpM) with reduced graphene oxide (r-GO) and poly(glycine) at the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). This sensor aims to detect life-threatening metronidazole (MTZ) residues in food samples.
